London to Poole - Recommend a route.

Hi.

I'm driving down to Poole on Friday, leaving around lunchtime. I'm not especially pressed on time so I'd thought I'd try and take a slightly more interesting route. At the moment I was thinking M4 then A338 to Salisbury and then across to Shaftesbury and down the A350 - or try and find a B road in between. Has anyone got any recommendations?

How about A3 then down the A272 to Winchester via the Meon Hut, Winchester across to Romsey, back up to Salisbury and across to Shaftesbury?

Thanks, that looks pretty descent, I think I'll use that B road that runs parallel to the A350 south of Shaftesbury. My Sat-Nav is Programmed (I.E. A scrap of paper has scrawled notes on it) and it's a beautiful day for it, here's hoping I don't run into too many of 45 everywhere brigade.

I sometimes go miles out of my way to go up or down ZIG ZAG Hill and you are very near.
Leave Shaftesbury on the A30 towards Salisbury but turn immediately right onto B3081. If coming from Salisbury, turn left just before the town roundabout. Turn left at the diversion sign and go up the hill. Over the top for a couple of miles, turn right to Compton Abbas airfield. (Stop for a bite in their restaurant and watch the planes?) Turn left to rejoin the B to Blandford.

First time I found the hill I turned round to back down and up again.

Yeah, I love Zig Zag hill, my first post on PH was about ZZH!I used to love bombing up and down it in the Mini, it's not bad in the Honda, really feel the diff doing it's thing
