Hank a very small part in 24 as some kind of Officer

Mike , I saw him in something the other day cannot remember , just a small walk on role they are out there for years plying their trade waiting for that break

I wouldn't say either of those are "unknowns" - Hank's actor was a fairly prominent mutant in the original Total Recall and has been in loads of other stuff, and Mike's actor has also been in quite a few Hollywood jobbies - the one that immediately springs to mind is Beverly Hills Cop.
Hank was also 'Big Jim' in Under The Dome...

Getting a bit fed up with missing the end of a plussed show.
Can't you choose to extend the recording in the settings?

That's a bit of a mess. I just plus the next programme if possible.

Mike has turned up. Like that actor, ever since he was a top bad guy in, Otherworld. biggrin

Well the fly episode has aired. It wasn't as bad as I expected, there was some decent character progress in it.

Lurking Lawyer, what are you thoughts on it so far?

I fast forwarded through most of that one, TBH its getting a bit boring, you can clearly see the "end no its a new beginning" parts as they get another series, like Walt having a miracle operation, then the contract for the the chicken guy being extended - all these could have been end of programme opportunities they have built in.

Hmmm, I think it swings in and out of boring for me. I think got better once they got their ineptness out of the way, but every level brings new challenges. My main problem with it is that the protagonists are such dislikeable s.
I'd have been quite happy for Jessie to get killed, and Walter is 70ish% tt with his hubris.

Please, no comments from those that have seen the whole thing on...'oohh you'll like this or that' then, let us who have not seen it enjoy it as we watch it.

But even in the quiet bits, the 'boring' bits, there is a curiosity in walt and jessie that in itself, is compelling.

Yes. Compelling. I was saying, 'don't tell him you let his gf die!' in the fly episode. The episode that aired last night, Walt saves Jessie and kills some bad guy. Which was highly riveting.

I like the fact that the protagonists are both anti-heroes. To me, that's less 'Hollywood' and more realistic.

i must be honest, the notorious 'Fly' episode was a second watching for me, and in reflection it's not as bad as I first thought.

Thinking back to something like 'The X-Files', once a season they would have a WTF episode that wasn't a 'story arc' or 'monster' episode it was like a dream, joke, or something tongue in cheek which otherwise was entirely useless to the story as a whole.

That said, the WTF episodes were usually entertaining, whereas 'Fly' was a low point in what is otherwise a series with a very high bar.

The beauty of watching it a second time (I'm watching again on Spike) is that you can FF through the slow bits. I wouldn't go so far as to call them boring, but I already know how the characters develop so I skip those to get to scenes I find more enjoyable i.e anything with Saul, Gus or Mike.

I did enjoy Mike's speech on 'half-measures'. THe actors are allowed some nice time.

I think bored is not the right word I should have used. Yeah, I like both the Sopranos (T) and Boardwalk Empire (nucky), I've always liked the one foot on darkness guys. Don't care for Jessie though, he is just so annoying. I veeer between liking Walt and then thinking he is such an arrogant so and so! With his huge brain. biggrin
I think some of the camerawork and ideas they have used is brilliant and very original. More than once I've rewind just to watch a shot/scene.

I agree - Jessie to me was always the 'foil' and the comic relief. I did like the relationship between the two though.

I actually really liked Walt. I think the experience was personal to me as a few years ago my father died of lung cancer, and as a father myself, that did naturally cause me to contemplate what one would do if I were given months to ensure my family would be looked after financially.

As such, I did enjoy Walt's transformation into gradually becoming more ruthless as time goes on and totally driven. I could empathise and often asked myself whether I would do the same!

No spoilers here, but BB to me is probably the only drama of this type which actually improved season on season without fail.

Well S3E13 has just aired, and at last Jessie has owned something and maybe his redemption arc is working...maybe. I think Walter's arrogance is also lessening. It' certainly going into areas which I didn't expect, and I keep thinking of that title, and the words spoken to Walter at the beginning.
It was pin drop television for that episode though... biggrin
I'll say something I like about Walt. His intelligence. He is obviously not omniscient, and has huge gaps, but twice (at least) he has correctly put together vague and scant clues about the actions of Gus and come up with the exact scenario. His awareness/perception is good.

Walt is very intelligent as is Gus, who is by far my favourite character, which is why he can often analyse and predict Gus' moves and motives. What he cannot match is Gus' cold, calculating, no compromise approach to business. Walt is still hampered by his conscience and desire to cling to "normal" life.

Gus is a man I would want to meet while at the same time being scared to death of him.

Only just spotted this!

Embarrassingly, I still haven't got around to starting it yet. There are 40-odd episodes sitting on the Sky+ box waiting to be watched. I'll get there, eventually!

Last few episodes have been the very best - the Mexican cartel standoff was as good as anything the Sopranos did.
