Not my dash cam footage.

This is a video sent in to the Eastern Daily Press by a concerned driver who subsequently called 999 on his hands-free phone (allegedly) who calculated the speed to be 120mph-ish.

Someone on here recently did a marvellous frame analysis of a motorbike and car "racing".

My own more amateur attempt: Merc passes at 0.01, and goes under the bridge at 0.05 (I'd say a little before). So 4s. Camera hasn't quite passed the bridge by 0.08, I'd say it was on course to so so by 0.09. So 8s. So, whatever speed the camera car was doing, Merc was doubling.

I make it 21 lines passed in the 8 seconds, if anyone can google-fu the distance between standard white lines you have everything smile.

Edit: from this, if I'm interpreting it correctly, the line spacing is 9 metres total. That puts camera car at 24 m/s, or 50 mph.

Speed readout on the clip says camera car was doing 65 . Merc was probably doing 72...

Very nearly spot on, well worked out.

According to the article and the GPS on the video, the camera car was doing mid-60s. The driver is claiming he calculated the Merc must have been doing 120-ish, so yes, possibly double the speed.

"Hello, police? I'm on a dual carriageway and I've just been overtaken.'

Waste of time, although they are both heading north towards Wymondham; the main police control centre is about 5 minutes further up the road so maybe he was expecting them all to jump out and nab the speeding driver. Well, 5 minutes up the road for the Merc driver - 10 minutes for Mr Do-Gooder.

Not seeing the problem. Clear and empty road, perfect weather and light conditions.

My thoughts "Why the fk is the car with the camera only doing 65 MPH?" My old driving instructor would have a go about NOT keeping up with the traffic.

To be fair, if the Merc went past my wife at that sort of speed, she would offer an opinion about how many puppies, nuns and kittens were likely to die as a result. Believes that we are all going to die if we travel 1 mph over the arbitrarily set limit.

I'm presuming the Merc driver was eastbound so 120mph away from Thetford is perfectly acceptablebiggrin
