I've read the code myself using DIS and INPA, my local indy have read it and contacted BMW for the repair kit (approx £200). However, BMW want to perform a "diagnostic check" (£100) to verify that the repair kit will fix the problem. Anyone able to comment on the "diagnostic check" proposed by BMW?

Surely if you trust the Indy guys and they are satisfied they can repair it with said part, they should just go ahead; your contract is with them, and if it doesn't solve the problem you get them to find another solution and fix it.
Paying 100£ is ridiculous. I would just order the part from another dealer. For example. I am a member of BMW forums and use Harry Fairbairn in Scotland, their service on parts is excellent.

As above.

BMW do take the piss a bit with their charges for plugging in a fault reader.

We had the dreaded ABS/DSC pump failure on the wife's Z4. I had read the codes, given them to my dealer and it was clear what the problem was. They still insisted in adding £100 + VAT to the over £2K quote for the replacement (no kit available and not repairable by the aftermarket suppliers).

As the car had FBMWSH I asked for goodwill and ended up paying £700 or so.

A couple of weeks later we traded the Z4 for a new SLK. I doubt MB are much better than BMW re charges but it made me feel better.......

Repair kit fitted and DSC fault now resolved. I did not take it to BMW for their diagnostic check.
