Happened to catch this by chance yesterday. Restoration of F5000 Lola that had been parked up for years.

Bit dumbed down but worth a watch if it's available on catch-up TV.

Mods - appreciate this is about TV but didn't think it'd be of much general interest in the TV forum.

I think these are repeats of old programmes. From what I remember that Lola looked quite presentable but had had it's fair share of shunts and was bent and cracked all over. At least racing cars of that age were quite simple technology. It all got very complicated from about 1990 onwards.

They also restored a bristol car for its lady owner. Remember thinking its a bit off when they take ig to her husbands classic car workshop for the restoration...

So he got air time, free advertsing, free labour and posibly free parts to restore his wifes car..

This series is at least 10 years old. Knowing a bit about restoring racing cars and in particular single seaters, I did laugh when they 'just' had new uprights produced as the originals were cracked, bent and beyond use.....that would have taken over £1,000 just for the uprights! But the weird thing is, they restored the car but it's NEVER been out in historic/vintage racing since the programme was made, very strange.

What's so odd about making new uprights ?

...it was the way they just glossed over it....'and we've had new uprights made...'

The uprights were the bit that wound me up. They spent most of the second half of the episode building up the drama of how impossible it would be to get new uprights and then found a supplier at the last minute - wow - didn't expect that!

Would casting a couple of pieces like that really cost £1k? Wow.

and the rest. When I was restoring my 1969 Nike Formula Ford single seater I needed new rose joints all round (16, I think), they cost me £1400 alone!

I'd have thought £1,000 would have been quite reasonable - as long as I wasn't paying it!

Surprised they were recast in mag alloy as well. Would have thought they'd have just use ally for longevity.
