Firstly you will need to check the terms of hire as they may well state that any driver has to be 25+ (not just the hirer). I would also check what the terms say about other drivers as you may need to be named on the hire agreement.

You will then need to check if day or short term policies cover hire vehicles.

Also watch out for hiked up excesses.

you might be able to get insurance - but do you not also need a car owner's permission to drive a car?
you will have no contract with the renatl company and no permission from them as the car owner
