Need to replace my Garmin 405 as it no longer holds a battery charge for more than an hour, despite replacing the battery last year frown

When I got my 405 four years ago, Garmin was the only kid on the block as far as GPS watches went, but there is a lot of competition now.
Is Garmin still the go-to choice? Or are others worth looking at?

I want to be able to see distance/pace or speed/time while running or cycling, and to be able to upload to review afterwards. Ease of use and long battery life is better than loads of features I won't use.

I've tried Strava on my phone, which is great but I can't see info while I'm running, and the phone is a bit cumbersome to lug around on longer runs.

If you can stretch to a Garmin Fenix 3 (or 2), or the Suunto Ambit 2 then you'll be set for a good few years. Multi discipline, GPs up to 50hrs (check the Ambit is the right one) and both quite reliable/top of the shop.

Bit late replying but I did a search to see if anyone had written anything about the Garmin Fenix. I have recently got one and I am sure it would suit your needs well and do all the things you mentioned - but - for me it has proved quite inaccurate. As a running watch on a track I am sure it is fine but I use it to go hiking and when it gets anywhere near a tree it seems to lose signal and there is no corrective algorithm to adjust this when back in the open nor when event data is subsequently downloaded and "mapped" on a computer. It's quite expensive and I am currently trying to get my money back - have written to Garmin Support but they have been pretty slow responding. Be interested to know what you decide to get.
