My wife just pointed out this thread on mumsnet. The stupidity of the OP, not to mention most of those responding beggars belief.

If the OP was below the speed limit, the police have nothing to talk to her about.

OP said:
Still a bit in shock from is this morning. Was on a nsl road, lights were red ahead to I eased off the accelerator. There was someone coming very quickly from behind and easing to the right like they were going to overtake, this happens a bit and does annoy me as its affectively pushing in, so I speed up a bit maybe up to 45-50 to stop them overtaking.

They just increased their speed even more and hit a car coming the other way. Both cars then spun round with some horrific noises. I wasn't hit but still in shock so slowed down but was no where to stop, so carried on going as I was totally confused and not sure what do to. A few mins later at the first available point I pulled into a side road, called 999, gave them all my details. Then I turned round to go back. The traffic had really built up, thin a road going into a city, so couldn't get back to it. After what seemed like ages in the traffic it started moving but when I go closer we were directed round a side road so couldn't get back, the guy directing didn't want to talk to me and just waved me down this road when I tried. So I carried on to work and phoned the local police station to say this happened behind me and gave them all my details.

Just got home, no messages or anything. I feel really guilty, should I go to talk to the police at the station or something?
Holy fk.

It really wasn't your fault by the sound of it. The person trying to overtake you on the approach to a traffic light was an idiot. Perhaps try calling the local station or 101 if you feel you might be needed to give a statement.

Poor you, must have been a real shock!
fk.

Terrifying that people such as the OP and some of the responders exist and we have to share the road with them.

I think the answer is to have a car that is much more powerful than the sort of stboxes these people drive.

[I'm also speechless]

She? caused a serious accident that could have killed someone - at the very least she's properly ruined two people's day.
She sounds like our favourite highly annoying 40mph in an NSL driver.

Remember everyone, it's much better to accelerate and cause a head on collision between two other cars, afterall, they were affectively(sic) pushing in.........

And, similarly, resist the temptation to sign up for mumsnet and join in their thread!

Those traffic lights must have been miles away.

Or maybe she meant brake lights in which case...

I really struggle with people like that. They may have just changed someone's life for the worse forever.
However, it is interesting that a different group of people have different reactions depending on where they're posting. If that were on here, by now someone would have posted the o.p's car, address details and bra size and the jury would have past sentence to a brutal hanging.
Where as on this mumsnet thing the majority seem to think it's not a problem.

Reading further on, she claims that the other car 'coming the other way' was actually coming out of a side road.

She's also now claiming that she sped up as the car approached from behind, but lifted off when it began it's manoeuvre.

She's a dick, granted, and she may have changed her story, but it does sort of sound like the car overtook near a junction.
