Friend of mine has a Lumix and I've got the Sony.... Friend keeps insisting the Lumix is the better camera because it has a better zoom but I swear mine generally takes better photos and seems to have a wider angle lens (when both of ours are zoomed out, mine gets more in the shot). I've also noticed in manual mode I have a wider range of settings for the ISO, shutter speed and aperture.

So if my Sony is better, why?

His does seem to have a few extra modes like "through glass" and "starry sky" but in taking pics of the sky at night mine does a very good job in manual with a long shutter time, low F number and a low ISO.....

Thanks

Here's a thought.

Go out and spend a month taking photos, each select an agreed number, share them with your family and friends and see which are the "best" - my betting is that none of your friends will be saying it's because of the technical specification of the camera.

Then again. A competent photographer probably does select the appropriate tool for the objective in hand....

My Sony really showed it's superiority yesterday.. We were at a waterfalls in Dartmoor, the was a lot of sun glare at the top and this showed up very bad on the Lumix yet the Sony handled it a LOT better! Even my friend noted this by asking me to take pics of him with my camera as opposed to his as he usually would.

We have also noted that when taking pictures of scenery the greens from grasses etc appears far more natural.

Almost entirely due to sensor size - yours is 4x the size of his.
