Coolant temperature

2.4D/D5....anybody know what temperature these should run at?

And what temperature is the fan supposed to cut in?

Mine runs at 88deg, but moves between about 85 and 90, hitting 96 in standing traffic a few days ago. I didn't hear the fan cut in at that temperature.

Normally bang on around 90degrees and should not move once warmed up - fluctuation usual indicates one of (or both of) the following - thermostat is iffy or the expansion tank cap is faulty. I'd start with the thermostat and replace that first - I'd always opt for a genuine volvo one - cheapo ones are a waste of time.

The expansion caps have a tendancy to crack and start to loose the seal in the system which creates hot spots which can be very damaging to the engine.
