Hi there,

Today between 3 and 6pm at King's Staith in York, some thieves stole a Whyte PRST-1 and a PRST-4, belonging to me and my wife.

We had cycled 17 miles to go to York for a late lunch, and discovered the theft at 6 when we were going to start cycling back home.

Unfortunately, we had to get a train and a taxi back home.

If anyone sees or hears anything about these being put up for sale in the York area in the next few days, I would appreciate a PM.

These bikes are very distinctive, and might prove tough to sell on without attracting some attention.

Just found out that our home insurance only covers £500 for bicycles too, so looking at a big loss.

They were both chained up very securely, and are security marked with our postcode.

The PRST-4 has some Easytrack.com and Ducatisti.co.uk stickers on the frame and swinging arm.

Posted a few STOLEN notices around King's Staith and the surrounding area this morning. Left a mobile number, and offered a reward for any information leading to the recovery of our bikes.

Contacted the police, and have a crime number, but took a while to get them to recognise that the stolen bikes aren't easily replaceble £50 snotters.

Apparently, there is CCTV covering the site, but after calling the police last night to let them know, then again at about 14:00, as yet, no one has looked at it. I offered to turn up at the police station to go through the footage myself, and save them a job, but that didn't go down too well.

Bah.

My wife had her bike stolen recently so can appreciate the frustration.

We found this to be useful:

bikeshd.co.uk/

Also invested in two different types of relatively expensive locks (the idea being the scum would have to take twice as long).

Good luck

Hi,

You might want to check out this ad on gumtree.

http://www.gumtree.com/p/bicycles/whyte-prst-1-4-m...

The seller doesn't appear to know if he's selling a PRST1 or a PRST4 (or perhaps both?), and he's not a million miles from York. He is however a vast distance from the bike pictured in the ad, which is my bike, in my hallway, in my house in London...
