Panel thickness?

I am in the process of changing my gearbox and whilst underneath the car I had a look at the gearlever hole. The hole exposes the body panel thickness and to me it doesn't resemble what I have seen on pictures of other cars.



As you can see the panel is very thick with multiple layers. This picture is taken from inside the transmission tunnel showing the top frame rail and fuel line At the bottom and the gear lever hole.

Is this how all are or have mine been "fixed" by someone?

nope, definitely "fixed". The tunnel on my S1 is just the usual few millimetres thick.

That might also contribute to my cars weight issue. the Daimler engine weighs a lot more than a Ford Kent, but my car weighs 980 kilos
