Someone at work had the wheels off her new Ka stolen a few months ago. They must have been worth about £50. It boggles the mind.

I've always wondered about thieves leavings cars on bricks, seems odd they are respectful enough to not drop your car on the ground, but not respectful enough to not nick the fking wheels in the first place.

So is it honour among thieves to not do any more damage than they need to?
Is it because it becomes difficult to jack it up for the last couple of wheels if the car is unstable?
Is it to avoid having an extra charge of criminal damage if caught ?

My dad had his wheels stolen years ago (Ford Granada) and they didn't leave it on bricks. Had to have the steering sorted afterwards too - they must have buggered that up somehow.

That is a pathetic comment if ever I have heard one.

Your sister is a lesbian.

My company runs a few VW vans. We've had to get locking nuts for the spare wheels as it seems some people don't bother with buying tyres or repairing punctures - much simpler (and cheaper) to nick a new wheel.

I too thought this had stopped years ago!

Yeah - because traveller "scum" pick locks and then leave it on bricks.

Whoever stole those wheels had a key. Breaking into a garage is far too easy to mess around with picking locks.

OP - find a new place to leave your car.
Would you to debate the contribution to society 'travellers' make? I have a good list of items related to them that have gone walkabouts. Strange that anyone would defend the thieving, sponging, miserable drains on society that they are.

Remember someone is always worse off that you. Remember there are really sad fks that need to or want to steel rover 800 wheels.

Apologies if this pic was taken in 1998.

Stealing wheels makes sense if the wheels are valuable, better than the ones you have or have good tyres and you don't. Your wheels are too specialist to fit that many cars, by your own valuation are not massivley valuable and I'd like to think a fellow owner of a car like yours would know better than to just steal your wheels (and not the whole car?). As for lack of lock damage and bricks used, unless the bricks were from nearby, someone came prepared, in as much as they knew what was in your lock up, and when no one would be watching. Also, it would be easier to stealk teh whole car (also more valuable). All this, suggests to me that someone wants to wind you up, rather than use your wheels. Upset anyone lately?

Yes, but if you were thieving scum wouldn't you:

a. Nick the whole car? or
b. If you just wanted wheels, take something that was easier to sell and less effort to steal?

Someone I worked with had his wheels nicked, but didn't notice for some time because they replaced his (with tread on the tyres) with theirs (hardly any tread).
Clever scum!

I'm no buildings expert, but I think there might be a slight crack developing in your garage wall too. yikes
And TC is a builder according to his profile hehe

Sorry to hear about the wheels, I assume the garage is remote from your house.

I had my wheels nicked in Bath about 10 or 12 years ago, they did me the courtesy of knocking it off the bricks after they'd finished and putting a pile of bricks under the radiator and air conditioning condenser, so to add insult to injury I had another 500 quid bill to go with the missing wheels.

OP you have the world's most polite wheel thieves.

You are attributing stuff like logic to thieving scum. It doesn't work like that. Back in the day I replaced my sister's stolen radio with one of those "no point in stealing it" face-off ones. The scum nicked that, too (minus the front which she still had years later) - they aren't playing by the same rules/logic, that's the point.

Just bought a Disco3 - someone's stolen the spare wheel at some point in the last 6 years. I love this country, but if I had to name my top dislikes, very near the top would be the massive preponderance of thieving bds there are here, who will seemingly help themselves to anything unattended at any time.
Common problem on all Discos, back door,or under chassis & previous generation RRS.

Only option is a thick chain round chassis or door bracket.

Good response V8forweekends.

PH Thicko mindset alert. Completely out of order.

It is precisely because it is not as Toothroot describes that it is targetted. Thicko! Richer pickings in the same way that Poundshops are ignored whilst Safety Deposit Box companies are not.

I keep stuff on my other property in a remote part of Gloucestershire. My nearest neighbour's property being a quarter of a mile away. For obvious reasons, these "posher" properties are targetted frequently. Speaking to those nearest neighbours theft and vandalism is frequent there. Secure gates ram-raided and Bolt cutters used to gain access. Farming equipment ...You name it stolen. Twenty foot pleasure boats on their trailers, car twin axle trailers etc etc stolen. No end to it! I have had my twin axle trailer stolen and even a non-runner car disappeared one night. Must have towed it away. One car had a failed attempt to remove the Catalytic Converter ... the circular cutting marks still on the pipe!

Still, rest assured, those we entrust to the Nation's well being tell us that "recorded" crime is down! Hoo-bleedin-ray for the box tickers...

Frequently around our less than desirable area .. rolleyes ... flat bed trucks circulate sometimes daily with a loud hailer..... "Any old iron" .... I flagged one down and gave them some old worn out heavy car components. They were from Romania and good for them earning a crust. On second thoughts I believe that was a mistake. ....Sometime later saw same individual on my property having a good look round....he obviously though my property was unattended. There's no end to it. I shall not flag them down again but weigh any stuff in myself in future.

I rarely travel by train but, not that long ago did so with my sons. Between Newport and Gloucester, we passed some folks obviously cutting signalling cable from the trackside. Scrap copper has higher scrap metal value. Soon after, the train braked and came to a halt in the middle of nowhere. The driver on the intercom told us why he had stopped to report the matter. It is far from unknown for folks to get fatally electrocuted during attempts to steal copper cables from electricity sub-stations! That despite Danger of Death warnings signs all over them!

No end to it.

P.S. We are further assured we need more immigrants. Throw ever wider the doors. rolleyes

Quite. Said neighbour has several including a mint version of one of the last off the production line.

Some folks chose to drive old cars even though like me, they could buy a new car cash today!
