Hi all, am new here but hoping for some advice.

I have an ageing Z3 2.8 (1998) with 97,000 miles. It's been very well maintained from the word go, is all original and still looks great and drives beautifully. However as you might expect it's getting a bit long in the tooth now - a few rattles and squeaks here and there, a fair few stone chips and the beginnings of rust at the base of the front wheel arches. Still polishes up well but if you look closely you can see it's an old car.

Although it's probably only worth a few thousand tops I have to confess I love this car and am very reluctant to part with it. I've been considering some fairly extensive work to bring it back up to spec - renewing all the running gear, clutch, probably a new roof, all the little niggles and a respray.

Can anyone recommend a good garage to do a full diagnosis and then the work? I'm London based but happy to travel for the right place - it's been BMW serviced all its life but of late I've been less than impressed by BM's service so happy to go independent.

Many thanks for all suggestions!

Hi Jonathan,

I too am London based, and although i haven't found a good BMW Indy yet (i've heard great things about CPC Performance Engineering based in South Bucks), i had my roof replaced by Car Hood Warehouse http://www.carhood.com/, £610 fully fitted with the bloke coming to my flat in Wapping.

Depending on where you are located, I use Polimax for other 'bits', such as alloy refurb, caliper painting, alarm replacement etc.

Thanks,

Oliver.

I'll second the CPC recommendation. Phil Crouch - the owner - is quite hard to get hold of but he really knows his subject and unlike other 'experts' he'll tell you if he doesn't! Its in Amersham and the website is here CPC

Just got my 325 ti back after a cooling system refresh at TWG in Frimley, Surrey.
Very pleased with the service and Will is a top bloke.
I went there based on reviews on here and other BMW forums, BUT he does only do mechanical work.
By the way he had a Z3 M Breadvan in the workshop when I was there.

I'll recommend Iridium Engineering in Southampton.

It's about 90mins from london and the guy that runs it is great.

What he doesn't know of BMW isn't worth knowing.
