Evening chaps,

since I've had the car the vinyl on the dashboard around the two furthest offside heater vent slots has been unstuck and pulling away from the former underneath it. It looks ugly and means that those two plastic inserts in the heater slots don't fit in their holes anymore, i've been having a go a re-sticking it today but its a total pain the ass. Has anyone else had a go at this?

I took the dash and instruments off and heated the vinyl up with a hairdryer to try and help it stretch back into the curvature, to get the glue underneath the vinyl i used a syringe with a hose on the end and some sprayable carpet adhesive up from underneath but so far to no avail! It would be a great deal easier with the windscreen out and although I'm planning to get the screen changed at some point before too long I'm not sure how i could arrange to do both jobs at the same time.

If anyone has taken this on before and had any success i'd be keen to hear about it.

When I did this it was right PITA.

In order to stretch the vinyl you will need to use a flat head screwdriver or similar to lift the vinyl off the foam; the latter does not stretch well. Then get the glue in place, heat generously, stretch... And the clamp the vinyl in its new position while the glue sets. Resist the temptation to see if it has set ; go off and mow the lawn or something.

I had to do this to the trim under the radio and even though there isn't much of it, I got it to move about an inch.

No, I can't remember which glue - sorry.

Hmm, that's a good idea about getting the vinyl off the foam. I think the closest I'm going to get to clamping in that location is wedging a door stop between the screen and the dash!
