So you are the US Navy.

Your F6D Fleet Defense Interceptor has just been cancelled, but you urgently need something to protect your fleet from air attack.

You have the Eagle missiles and fire control from the cancelled program, and you have a number of F3D Skyknight airframes.......

OK, the Skyknight can only carry two of the big missiles, but two is better than none....

F3D-3

1/72 Matchbox kit, with missiles from a YF-12A

Very nice. I have a soft spot for the Matchbox Skynight. I finally managed to track one down last year.

Interesting idea, but it needs a catapult for launch. Now, will an Eagle missile fit under a Fairey Swordfish? Could be just what the UK Navy need to supplement the brace of F35Bs we can afford.

What's the disadvantage of needing a catapult launch - all it's contemporaries would also need one?

I think he's referring to the fact that our new carriers won't have catapults wink

Ah.

Looks a good model, in fact glancing at the photos I initially thought some were reference images for a build log.

There was a genuine project to fit missiles to a Skynight derived aircraft -
