Hi I'm looking for a helmet, however I'm having real problems finding one that fits! I don't think I have a particularly large head and I can find helmets that fit around the top of my head the problem I have is the chin bar is too close/touching my chin/nose (I really don't want an open face helmet) I have tried upto something like XXXXXL which was too big up top but still too tight around my jaw. The only thing I can think of is a Simpson Bandit (I tried one on years ago and had my picture taken as I was wearing a "STIG" T-shirt at the time and remember it fitting well!) The problem is there are no Simpson dealers near me to try one out and is it OTT for track day use? Perhaps it's the "snout" of The Bandit that helped any advice/wisdom would be welcomed.

Thanks Iguana I've been to many bike shops tried on many helmets I really don't think I've got a Buzz Lightyear/Brucie/Jimmy Hill chin nor a Barry Manilow nose however I seem to have a problem with space around my lower face. Helmets I've tried Lazer Nitro Box AGV Shoei Arai Caeberg and probably more! Don't know what to do it so frustrating.

Try an Arai Tour X4 for size. These are 'adventure' bike helmets so have a chin bar in a motocross style although not quite as extreme. All you need to do is take of the peak and you can use them with the visor only. They certainly give more room in the lower face area than your average full face. Speaking as a biker of many years, Arai might be costly but are absolutely the best IMHO. There are other adventure style helmets about if the Arai is a bit salty for you.

Thanks Muffy I've tried M/X helmets and still found them too tight though they didn't touch my chin they pinched my cheeks I would also prefer a helmet with a visor most M/X helmets need goggles will take another look at Arai

Most Arai helmets have different size cheek pads available. If you can find a dealer with decent stocks who can be bothered, you might be able to try some different pads and get sorted.
Good luck.

Thanks Sigmamark7 from your user name I thought you might be a fellow sevener but apparently not.

Just a word of warning; if you've got a 7 some circuits won't let you on track in an open face. I know you've said you don't want one, but in case you were tempted as a solution.

Thanks Mike not even considering it as a solution. Really want something in front of my face should the worst happen.

I was a 7 owner, in fact it was a R500 engined SV, but being a 250 bhp K Series (albeit a Scholar unit) it was reluctant to keep all its fluids inside the engine, so in the end it had to go in favour of a 997 GT3. Divorce and its insatiable appetite for tyres ended that dream, so after running a 325 bhp Megane 250 Cup for a while, I went all sensible (!!!!) and got a Radical SR3RS.
