Without removing the thermostat?

Engine taking a long time to warm up. Think thermostat might be stuck open.

thanks,

switch on the car from cold and hold the pipe into the radiator. It shouldnt get noticeably hot until the thermostat opens, then you should feel the hot water coming through. if its warm quickly, its either stuck open or missing!

What are your current symptoms?

I've just changed mine. My car was taking a very long time to build up temperature. My old thermostat was closed when I removed it, I assume it was opening at a low temperature, say 25degC. My new thermostat works as expected, car reaches temperature quickly and holds that temperature.

So i tried this. The hose into the top of the radiator got hot after about 5 minutes.

Is that normal?
