Wheel balancing question

I'm almost at the end of the build of my R400, just looking at the Apollo wheels and tyres.
They locate on the car with the 4 bolts, the rears do appear to sit on the small spigot on the hub as well, but the fronts are not close to the spigot.
My question is how do these rims normally get mounted on a wheel balancer? Using a back cone or do they get put on a 4 stud flange kit?
I have my own balancer but I don't have a flange kit so have used a back cone. Checking the wheel assemblies as supplied they are not that accurately balanced and they also seem to have a lot of weight on them.
I have repositioned them several times on my balancer, and always get the same imbalance, or thereabouts, so I'm sure they are locating centrally. I just wonder if they need to be located on the balancer using the 4 studs and not the centre hole.
