The weather was good, the bike was clean, work was bunked and the ride commenced - 107.5 miles, 6.5hrs and 6821ft gain.

Stopped every 20 miles for 5 minutes or so and had a snack, big drink and Had lunch at 60miles overlooking the sea.

Went through 4 energy gels, 3 cans of coke, a hot chocolate, slice of bakewell, 1 pint of strongbow and a jacket potatoe with tuna salad.

Feel ok now, legs are good, bit sunburnt though!

I definitely need some better fitting road specific shoes, my worn out old spd's have made a nice blister on each little toe.

As another bonus rolled over 1000miles this year!

Only been riding 2 and a bit years after only starting to lose weight, And only had a road bike since March this year!

Hopefully the first of many this year...

Good effort I'm still not there, I did a 62 mile last year and this year as well of lots of cycling to work I've done 20, 30, 44 and 39. That 100 still seems a long way off!

Excellent! Not sure I'll make it this year having only just completed my first 50 but it's a good aim.

This will be me on Sunday hopefully after the Gran Fondo Conwy.

I cracked 70 miles last Saturday and have the Cavendish ride and a C2C lined up for later in the year!

Picked my road bike up in September last year and have just cracked 1000 miles.....

Well done on the century. I've only just done my first the other week, and I'm doing at least 2500 a year, non of it riding to work. As for your food intake, bearing in mind that on my hundred Strava reckoned on I'd done 4,600 calories, I think you could have had at least a small packet of Haribo as well.

Congrats!

Something I'm working towards slowly. Trouble is I get bored stupidly quickly and find talking to myself I go mad.

smile This deserved more recognition than it got....

Well done OP - decent little run that.

S10 - Don't be so picky.

I only managed to burn 3800 calories on 103 I did last month - 2 x flap jacks and a cheese and ham toasty if anyone is interested. Then my own body weight in whatever I could get my hands on when I got home

To be fair, S10GTA has a point, although I strongly advocate the "whatever it takes" mentality and like seeing people achieve their goals, especially milestones like this, there is a great misunderstanding amongst cyclists about nutrition and about carbs in particular.

This is true, but don't forget not all of us on here have fantasies about joining the pro-peleton and as such there is no 'should' about anything. The only thing recreational cyclists 'should' do is enjoy themselves - and if they want to be more serious and worry about what they are eating, nutrition, how far they should be able to go on just a cereal bar that's up to them.

OP wanted to do a century, OP did a century. I am not going to pick holes in it on a nutritional basis - because I don't really care enough about that side of it.

Good work, but only 1 pint of pissy cider? That's a 3 pints plus of proper ale ride that. I won't mention the salad.

Thanks everyone, to answer some questions:

Im 32, 5'10" and currently weigh over 14stone...

My longest ride before this was 69miles so quite a jump!

I will never be a quick rider and no abitions to race, just to get fitter and enjoy my mtbing more.

On the food, i thought i had done quite well - there is no way i could of gotten around on any less! However i did just have a salad for dinner (and a few more pints) and not pig out like a normally do
