Is this right? Service plan goes with car
Discussion
Hi everyone.
Brief history, I bought a 2014 320d from main dealer.
I also bought a 2 year service plan.
Long story short, I didn't get along well with the car so px'd the car a few months later for another make of vehicle.
despite not being used, BMW dealer tells me that service plan follows car, so new owner will benefit and no refund for me.
I would be happy if I believed this story, but, how will any future owner know that the vehicle already has a paid service plan? What prevents BMW, or any other dealer, selling another service plan to the next owner?

Thanks Helix,
Does this apply nationally, bearing in mind the car could turn up in any BMW outlet?
When buying a used vehicle it isn't natural to ask if the car has an existing service plan. More likely the dealer will try to sell you a plan and may not even recognise that the car has an existing plan.
It would seem this system is open to abuse or mistaken reselling.

When I was looking for a used car, quite a few of the newer ones were sold with the balance of the service inclusive pack, so it seems to be flagged up by dealers. Plus, I thought this offer was only available for new registrations so couldn't be sold as a product to someone buying used; the used car buyers would benefit from the balance of the pack bought by owner 1. http://www.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/topics/owners/service-a... (this says prices for new registrations)

There is an AUC service pack as well for used cars, but it's much poorer value, it costs more than the new one and lasts for only 2 years so likely only covers a single service.Plu Tony M said:

If it's the proper bmw service plan then yes it flags up automatically, if it's a dealer specific one no. Does this apply nationally, bearing in mind the car could turn up in any BMW outlet?

As has been said already, it'll be picked up when the reg / key is plugged in in any BMW dealers.Does this apply nationally, bearing in mind the car could turn up in any BMW outlet?

Therefore even if the dealer tried to "sell" another servicing pack, they couldnt implement it as it would already be on the system.
My sons car had a servicing pack on it and as soon as he phoned up to book it in for a service and gave them the reg they told him the service pack was valid.
