hi

i was in a lambo and Maclaren the other day of which you have to pull the door shut rather than lower half way and then slam, or worse someone jumps in and it slams from the top./

So it got me thinking... my rams are new, has anyone moved the mounting pint of the ram or increased its resistance?

Also.. has anyone added door rubbers all the way round the door so you dont get a draft on the lower section

many thanks Dom

Hi Dom

I have no solution to the ram question, sorry.

If you seal the bottom of the door there is no where for the to escape/enter.

As would I. And adding some elegance via a more controlled closing mechanism for the door(s) would be nice, so long as it didn't add much weight. I find that I have to check many of the allen screws around the door mechanisms and mounts now and then to ensure a tight fit and no waggling. I don't know if I should use blue loc-tite instead but have been hesitant.

Hi Russell

How do you manage the airflow into and out of your GTR? If the door is sealed at the bottom where does fresh air enter the cabin?
If this can be overcome then I would be interested in doing this too.

id think its the same as a normal car with a door seal?

they arent open or vented. if we fit a windscreen we have to leave a window open while drying otherwise when we shut the door the window pops out

I am sure that there are plenty of holes in the cabin to let air out - engine bay wiring, shift rods, steering columns etc.

I used lower front door seals from L'Rover Defender which rivet on. I used nutserts with 4mm stainless bolts and large od stainless washers. Been there now since 2012 with no problems.

I sealed the bottom of my doors using readily available rubber section stuck to the rebate in the side pod. This was done mainly to keep water out (at a particularly wet track day, water was pouring in under the doors!) I've had no problems with air entering (helicopter vents) or leaving ( doors "lifting") There are plenty of places where air can escape.

When I was looking to realign my gas rams I came across this guy in the States installing door actuators, but it does have some safety draw backs that I can see, cool idea though........oh and just ignore the car it's being fitted to!

looks doable. Do you legally need a latching system ?

I could see a way of installing an emergency pull pin to disconnect the actuator in case of an emergency.

Wonder who makes the actuator.

Think he says Hatch Masters in Illinois, he goes on to say about installing buttons inside and out to override the fob buttons.
The sole means of opening and shutting though is the actuator, can't see how you or someone would open in an emergency, but I guess in that case it would be ripped opened!
My guess would be an MOT issue.

That door closing mech is a bit "Barry Boy" to my eye, next thing you will want chrome wheel spinners and pink fluorescent lights under the car.
There's a place for this sort of thing and it's called a Vauxhall Corsa wink
IMO of course.

Yep, http://hatchmasters.net/ - not massively expensive either.

Depends what you are looking for.

A group C Homage or a kit with a modern slant.
