Golf R windscreen washer problem

Hi,
Sorry to start two boring threads in this forum in 24hours - I'm sure I can say more interesting things about the Golf R, but does anyone who owns one have this issue: When the wiper stalk is in the "off" position and you activate the washers does it always wipe the screen automatically? Mine sometimes does not, leaving the screen covered in washer fluid and then you have to manually switch the position to on, past the auto setting, to get it to work. I asked VW to look at it when it was in for an oil service and they told me there was a technical bulletin on it that suggested they should "reset" the system, which they did. It hasn't made any difference though!
Not exactly the biggest problem in the world, but it is annoying...!
Otherwise, a great car although being a fan of high revving screaming NA engines it has taken some getting used to - especially the way it drops off so abruptly at high revs.
