At least the 6 sent its power to the correct wheels, with reasonable weight distribution, and could be made to handle...

I think it had its gearbox up front too so probably had a nicer gearchange quality than the Alfettas?

I think so. It was basically an Italian copy of the E12/E28 5-series with a Busso V6 in place of the M30.

Yes. And a briefcase in the dashboard. What more could you want?
biggrin

A bank of switches in a full length panel down the middle of the roof, to complete the spaceship feel. hehe

I thought I was over 164s. It's been, oh I don't know, months since I last looked on ebay for one ... but there, suddenly, all those old feelings come rushing back. Yes the V6 is a magnificent beast, but the TS is a total hoot. Fabulous sounds from under the bonnet, great handling and just far more fun than you'd rightly expect from a car like this. I still think it looks fine, but every time the mem-sahib catches me looking at them she mutters the time honoured threat of "you'll have to sell something else before you get one of those ... besides there's nowhere to keep it." Dammit she's good

Sorry if it's there and I missed it (just scanned through last few pages) but no-one seems to have mentioned yet that the Alfa 164 shares its styling with the Peugeot 406 - same designer/design house and project. Compare corner views of both and you'll see what I mean.

Until it's pointed out though they both do a very good job of looking completely different (I.e. not like Peugeot version of Toyota Aygo, or the Seat/Audi/Skoda models that are clearly based on the same bodyshell.

Closer to 405/605 than to 406.

I don't know why it's been relisted.

They were awful cars, about as rigid as a Tupperware box with no lid. Yes it does have curiosity value and they are rare so I suppose they deserve saving to show how bad they were. Good engine but that's about it. Even Morrissey made a miserable song about them, 'Girlfriend in a Croma'!

I think that briedcase should have foam, pistol, silencer and ammunition in it.

See the pale marks on the dash above it? That was where Harvey Keitel went too far with the Mr Muscle and scouring pads.

The Alfa 90 was also the first production car to have 2 measurements of speed and a moveable aerodynamic device!

Pfft. My 1978 Alfetta GTV had both.

A conventional speedo and (as an additional warning/aerodynamic aid) the drivers door mirror automatically folded back at over 80mph.

By 1981 they had dropped both. Mine had neither moving aerodynamic devices nor any dial that had a clue how fast I was going. It did, however, have the combination fuel gauge / g-meter that would tell you whether you were turning left or right smile

And don't forget the Alfa 75 had a built in Accelerometer which also masqueraded as a glovebox lid!

I love how the Alfisti find positive aspects to the sttiness of certain parts of their cars. I wish I could find the same enthusiasm when BMW headaches are getting me down - it's never anything that one could call funny. The fuel gauge needle moves only as the fuel level drops. The door mirrors fold only when I fold them. The glovebox opens only when someone pulls the handle. Pieces of trim usually stay where BMW put them (apart from one piece of fake wood on the 535i, where the glue failed, so it got reglued when the car was serviced a few years later). However, almost everything can go wrong with the engine - VANOS, crankcase breather, valve stem oil seals, head gasket... ended up having to swap the engine on the 520i. 535i mainly reliable but did lose a coolant pressure hose quite spectacularly, and also decided to break a window regulator with the window wound fully down, on what then turned into a cold, wet winter evening, 18 miles from home... ze Germans haf ein vicious, sadistic sense of humour!

Also funny how I didn't find it at all funny when bits of my Golf, Opel, Ford or Nissans start falling off or being quirky. It's because the GTV, when it was running, was never boring. The good bits of the car were the best I've ever had.

BMWs in comparison were like sensory deprivation.

My BMWs aren't exactly dull when running properly either, yet somehow I don't have the limitless forgiveness the Alfisti exhibit!
