I know prices are on the up but come on 4K for a 350i that needs re-comissioning ...I would of thought a realistic value of say 2K would be more appropriate ....Surely...It would need that again spent on it...

laugh..Lets hope that the high mileage hasn't affected the cam...Yet!...But its inevitable...New hood...£500..New interior £1500-2K..Paint...2-4K...If the chassis is okay then there is still the usual bits for a car that has sat around...Check the condition of the fuel tanks as they go rusty...Replace all fuel hoses and filters, pumps and battery..Coil..Rotor arm..Plugs...Leads...And thats just for starters...

I guess at the right price it would make a good project for someone...Although too cheap and the breakers get their dirty mitts on it.....

Is it only Wedgers who whinge about the low value of their prized possessions and then proceed to undermine some "ambitious" pricing?!

Just being honest....When you look there are examples in much better condition for another £500 or so...In the second ad the guy is saying about keeping it..Probably the best option.
Yes we would love our cars to be worth loads but then most of us probably wouldn't drive them if that was the case..Creating even more "Barn finds" or potential "Scrappers"...I havent always been so lucky financially but have loved the Wedge for 25+ years and only now can afford one...(Just about).. If i can cash it in when I'm 70 years old then i will spend the money on "Sex..Drugs and rock n roll" and then go out with a big smile on my face wearing a TVR t-shirt..Happy days...smile

I agree with Zig. Yes, I guess we'd all like our Wedges to be worth 50k, but we have to be realistic and live in the real world. I think most Wedgers 'winge' the least compared to others, as they just get on with improving their prized possesions instead of being greedy and boast about ambitious prices. So to answer your question Mr Fettler, NO, it's not Wedgers that winge and then undermine ambitious prices, they are mostly just honest, real people living in the real world.

Its definatly the only car owners group I know that think they are worth less and not over inflating!

Every car I've had other than the wedge owners always think they are worth twice what they are! Lol!

You have to ask why people are buying a TVR. Is it because they want something few others have, is it because they're bored with Mecccano and want a better toy or is it because they want a fast car?
If it's the latter, well let's face it there are many other cars at least as fast as the average Wedge and many of them are more user-friendly to boot - you can leave them parked outside in all weathers and they don't get wet inside, you can take the mother-in-law shopping and the kids to the flicks and you can still do 0-60 in 6 seconds when the occasion presents itself.
If you just want a convertible then even Peugeot and Ford offer them (and with 2+2 seating, 40mpg and a ready resale market)... if you add it all up there's not a lot in the Wedge's favour so it takes dedication (and a certain financial 'so-what, it's only money') to want one for keeps.
Look how many owners have come and gone in the time PH has been up and running. The ones who stick with them are most likely the ones who don't care what the car's worth; those who do care are the ones who always have an eye on the fast profit (or at least on not losing money) and if that's the case they should read Classic Cars and buy what Quentin tells them to... and funnily enough, I can't recall him ever telling anyone with real money to buy a TVR (of any type). So until he does, the Wedge will forever be stuck as the poor-man's relation to performance cars and forever be bought by people with just enough money to buy one but perhaps not just enough dedication to live with the on-going costs. With most existing owners anticipating the latter, any car for sale has to appear cheap enough to offset the future costs of ownership (and rectification of previous owners' bodges) and maybe that's why 'we', the collective, always titter at elevated prices.

Top Gear did a TVR special episode a few years ago, you'd have thought with Sticky Vicky and the Jezster waxing lyrical, that might have seen a blip in sales but I can't say any of us noticed it on here. Maybe a few more Hooray Henry's bought Cerberas to crash into trees, who knows...

Just my opinion, but ever since joining this forum, it is slightly annoying the way many do devalue a car that we supposedly love. Stop doing it! any classic car, until they reach a certain level see values all over the place, why don't we get on board and enjoy the fact that at last the Wedge is starting to achieve values they deserve, after all it's not as though they are ever going make your retirement fund, they are just climbing gradually along with everything else. If you want something to go down in value, go and buy a new Kia or something.

Edited because i was rantingsmile

Thing is mate its us who should set the president as regards to value not someone who is just looking to make a quick buck!...Or a trader buying in for peanuts and selling straight on for film stars money...

I wouldn't say de-valuing...More being realistic!

We are just custodians of these cars and personally its irrelevant how much i have spent on them even if it does exceed the current value...I do it because i love them and things would have to be very drastic for me to even consider selling...If i had a missus and she said.."Its me or the Wedge" then i would have to open the front door and say.."See ya then"...And wave the missus goodbye...

I dont want any other car and if i won the lottery then i would still have a Wedge..Albeit LS supercharged..NOS induced madness...And it would have a paint job similar to the pens with the women on them that reveal all when turned upside down...(You remember those as well Ian smile...)..Except when i brake all the clothes come off ..Then put the foot down and up come the panties...hehe

And to be fair i have seen prices rise over the last 3 years by £1500...So at that rate my 350i will be worth 10K in 10 years...15K in 20 years....And as said when i get to 70 i will have 15K to spend on sex..Drugs and rock n roll...Touch.....Ziga

Someone was after the episode so I borrowed them the VHS and got a shiny coaster in return (and me tape back).

And my first vixen came with 8 track.... One cartridge, a certain Mr Bowie cartridge. The only cartridge and I could not find any others for sale, god how I hated that album after a short while.
