MK6 GTI ON 19" GOLF R ALLOYS
Discussion
Hi,
I am considering a MK6 GTI 5dr DSG and went to see one today. base model in white, tartan cloth interior, etc. What was interesting was it was on the Golf R 19" alloys. According to the dealer, it was a part-ex for a Golf R and the buyer wanted the GTI 18" alloys on the R. So they put the R alloys on the GTI. Has anyone driven a mk6 gti on 19" wheels?

I noticed a little difference in my Mk6 when I went from the 17' to the 18" Monzas, so I imagine you will see the same sort of thing on stepping up a size - which is to say a little more' crashy ride on our UK roads as there is less tyre side wall to absorb the defects. Nothing you can't put up with.
I'd take it for a test drive and if you like it, then go for it. Anyone else's opinion doesn't matter.
What's most bizarre about that, is that someone has gone and bought a new Golf R and said, "No, no - I want the older, stter wheels that will cause me a problem on trade in/resale, thanks". Ha ha.

I've had both Mk5 and Mk6 GTIs, both DSG and I will say that the Mk6 revisions make a big difference. You will like it.
The Mk5 DSG was a bit dim-witted but nothing major - the main issue seemed to be at the top end of the rev range the car felt like it ran out of puff.
The Mk6 had revised DSG software and a bump to 210hp. The box was much better and that extra 14hp got rid of that breathless feeling at the top end. Much better car than the Mk5. Plus I think the Mk6 still looks pretty fresh as the styling changes between 6 and 7 were not all that huge. I imagine with the newer 19's on, it will look bang up to date.
I fed mine on V-Power apart from the very odd occasion when there was none available and you can really tell the difference. Be prepared for the extra couple of quid per tank....it's worth it, tho.
I suffered from a bad back in the Golf seats. Happen to me for both of my GTIs. Any kind of longer journey used to leave me in agony. Never could get past it. SO my tip is (if they let you) spend a bit of time in the car and make sure you are COMFORTABLE. A little thing like that can knacker your love for the car.
Enjoy!!

Sorry to steer away from the current topic but found the following link http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=2627...
The car I've seen is a 59 reg with 50000 miles on the clock. Looks like the tensioner failure is quite common on the mk6 gtis. Am gonna check whether it has been replaced but if not, could be a good bargaining tool? Thoughts and advise appreciated.

Car looks nice, those wheels actually suit surprisingly well! If it hasn't had any work on the chain/ tensioner I would be tempted to take out an extended warranty to cover yourself in case of failure. I'm not sure if you could use it as a bargaining tool though since it isn't a service item, just something which is known to fail!
