Just trying to set up my new GB BRIX PC, installed an existing 120Gb SATA SSD which has Win7 loaded, tried booting it just on the off chance but no surprises it wouldn't load.

Plan B: Have Win8.1 Pro 64 ISO file on a USB3 pen drive (all legit), tried putting the pen drive in the BRIX USB3 port, going into the BIOS on start up & selecting the USB pen as primary boot device. Does it work? No!

What am I doing wrong? Only ever done fresh installs of windows on new HDDs before, this is all new to me & I'm stuck frown

What ram do you have installed. The Brix needs 1.35 volt stuff

Am I correct in my assumption that you used a utility to load the ISO onto your USB stick and make it bootable?

An ISO isn't bootable if you just have a windows8.iso file sitting there on the USB drive.
Help here on how to make a bootable drive: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/creat...

Does it boot on the machine you are using just now (to determine if its the Brix or the USB stick)?

Not tried that, would I need to go into BIOS to get it to boot from USB?
Possibly. Most PCs these days have a prompt to select boot device to have having to mess with boot ordering in the bios, Esc, F9, F10 or F12 commonly.

OP once you get it working I'd be interested to hear your views on the Brix, we're considering getting one at work to run some lab equipment. Which model did you go for?
Me too.

I was tired & pressing DEL to go into BIOS rather than F12 to get boot options. Did find that it wouldn't recognise a USB mouse until windows was on, had no problem with the keyboard though!

Win8.1 Pro all loaded now, ended up copying all the drivers from the CD in the box to USB then installing, downloading from GB website wasn't going too well!

VLC wants to download a film from NAS when playing back rather than streaming?
Windows Media Player seems to encounter errors on everything, not too bothered about that.

Out tomorrow doing petrolhead stuff so will play with it on Monday night. Need to drill some holes & run a Cat.5 cable to it from the router really, powerlines are Ok but a cable has got to be better, don't want to rely on the built in w/l.

Just need to find a way of streaming from the NAS, can't be doing with it transferring the files every time, films these days are massive!
