There are, it is said, three "Ps" which can get you in trouble if you're a police officer.

Paperwork, Property and Policewomen.

During my service. I always managed not to get in trouble over paperwork. As for property though, any serving or ex officer will have a tale or two about losing a vital piece of evidence. Drugs could be problematic if you didn't put them in the safe as soon as possible, and cash can be a worry. Its not usually because someone nicks it - just that it's easy to put something in your pigeon hole or locker when you're in the middle of an investigation and then forget where you put it.

I lost a gun for a couple of days once. That didn't go down well.

Spare a thought then, for the officer in Wiltshire police who is responsible for losing a car. Especially as it's a fairly vital piece of evidence in a double-murder case.

Still - sounds like they're on top of it:

A Wiltshire police spokesperson said:
The car was not lost, but they did not know where it was exactly.
Perhaps someone should explain to them the meaning of "lost". The spokesperson continued, however, and shed some light on the cars whereabouts:

Not knowing when to stop digging the Wiltshire spokesperson said:
The vehicle has not been lost, we understand it to be in the North of England.
Thats a relief then. Definitely not lost.

Well, somewhere in Europe - or at least on the planet of origin.

The spokesman stated "It's not lost, we understand it's somewhere in the North of England".

He went on to state "After an internal review, we discovered that people always found lost items in the last place that they looked, we will therefore look in the last place we looked at the start. Therefore the item will not be lost as we will find it".

It may also be in the UK, or Europe, but for certain it is on planet earth and therefore is not lost.

Always heard it said as 'Prisoners, Prick and Property'smile (not just policewomen who dropped male officers in iteek)

Wasn't you that left the taser on the roof of a car & drove off was it?

This is generally because once they find it they stop looking.
