Well, I think they have reached new heights on this blunder.

We moved house 3 months ago, sent the V5 off with our change of address in Febuary and today received a cheque from them for £187.50 which was sent to our old house and redirected by Royal Mail.

It can only mean that they have assumed we sold the vehicle to ourselves at our new address. So now my van is not taxed, I'm working tomorrow and the dvla is closed until Monday.

It's staggering. Fortunately, my wife does not send any paperwork to those muppets without photo copying it.

What's the chance of me getting stopped before I can get it sorted?

Yes, thanks. Done it now.

Annoying, as I have owned it since new and it will now say 1 former keeper on the V%

And, I assume you've paid for (but not got) an extra month of RFL...

Oh, I thought you meant you seen a party with some manifesto commitments in this area or something. As far as I can see, no party is offering any changes on this sort of stuff.

OP - looks like (as in the linked to thread) DVLA has taken submitted info at face value - maybe the form needs a redesign?

It shouldnt and if they do, send it back to them to correct.

I once had to send my V5 back three times as the clowns over at the DVLA couldnt spell my name right. It was during a change of address as well so I wonder why they had to mess with my name.

Its not an English name but its only seven letters. How hard could it have been to copy that over? It took the muppets 3 tries to get it right.

Husbands first names are Steven Stanley. We once had a V5 returned to 'Steveb Stabket',
Nothing surprises me.

You will also lost money on the tax overlap ,ie the rebate would have charged you until the end of April , but the new tax would be backdated the April 1st, so you have paid twice for April

I think the whole DVLA needs a redesign.
Certain elements of this government agency are a disgrace, quite happy to make rulings on a subject that can change a persons life, and they have no idea, or care for the impact these rulings have on such an individual.
I look forward to the MPs knocking on my door smile

Sounds like OCR, not human error.

I once had a log book go back and forth 6 times due to DVLA errors with Surname or adding on owners.

Other than that never had any problems with them.

Not OCR, mis-hits on the keyboard. b,k and t are all one key to the left of n, l and y. The OP had done it one of his comments; held the shift key too long and typed V% instead of V5.

Never had a problem with them in the last 20 years with about 15 odd cars.

But I dont like them selling my private details to non government companies.

A few years ago my Dad had to send some kind of medical declaration to DVLA for some reason. He was in generally good health at the time so this should have been a formality.
Surprisingly he got a letter back from the DVLA saying he couldn't have a driving licence anymore due to the health problems noted on his application form.
Seemingly some disgruntled or bored DVLA berk had adjusted his form so that it appeared that my Dad was variously afflicted with heart problems, dementia, epilepsy, one eye, some missing limbs (I can't remember which), etc etc. Basically according to the form he was just a brain in a jar that wanted a driving licence!
To be fair it was pretty funny, but a bit inconvenient..

I agree with your sentiments, but good luck getting any MP to
a) Care
b) Do anything useful

and good luck getting any MP knocking on your door unless you live in a very marginal seat - if you live in most of the ones I've lived in over the years, where a monkey with a Blue Rosette (in my case - but other colours apply of course) would get elected, you'll never see 'em, like I never did.
