Hello
I have a Range Rover Sport, but I'm thinking of changing to an Evoque but this time on a leasing contract. I've never leased before and wondered if anyone else who does could let me know how they've got on please. Has it worked well for you? Who is a good company to use or who is not a good company to use? And would you mind sharing your figures with me... Which model? Monthly payments? Initial payment? Equity at the end of the contract? Any advice is gratefully received, thank you smile

Personally, if you are buying a new facelifted Evoque I would buy/PCP over a lease.

Why well, if you were buying a highly depreciating product, then it fixes your loss/costs. But Evoques have strong residuals which you may well benefit from when your PCP is up. I.e you have built in more equity than planned. With a lease, the leasing company gets to keep it.

Just a thought.

Thanks Triple7. I'm new to the idea of leasing/PCP and trying to work out the pros and cons of both, but I think you are right that PCP is the better option for me. It works out at slightly higher monthly payments, but the benefits seem to outweigh those of leasing.

All very true, but it is offset by a large amount by the swingeing APR LR charge on their PCP deals, my advice would be get your own finance if you do go down that route.
I did the quick man maths on say £40k and putting £10k upfront paying the basic £400pm you will pay about £5k in interest over 3 years if you buy it in the end. Don't forget good residue have been had, but there are no guarantees it will continue, just a thought.

My local dealer is offering this: I pay £2k up front, they pay £1.5k then 35 payments of around £600 per month, give or take (which includes servicing), there should be a few thousand in equity at the end to use as deposit for the next one. Does that sound reasonable? That's for the Dynamic HSE, available in September.

Tbh that would work out around 650pm which is probably similar to currently leasing one, assuming 10k mile pa. currently LR control their market well so pcp is probably on balance the better way to go with them. If it works out there isn't money left in it in the end then nothing is lost as a lease would have been a similar total outlay.
btw £1500 is currently a standard contribution from LR on the car, so nothing special being offered by your dealer. The 5 year servicing plan at £499 is a no brainier and very good value.

Trade/part-ex prior to end of agreement, don't simply hand it back.

APR is probably a bit steep, you don't need the GMFV of the PCP on an Evoque iMHO, so it may well be £100+ cheaper a month to get a personal loan for £25k @ low rates like 3.7% and stick in your cash....

Hi Triple7

Firstly, I haven't been on Pistonheads for yonks, but your handle is familiar, did you by chance know my late husband, Laurie Brown? He had a Jaguar S-Type-R which he bought from Racing Green Cars (I still have it). There was a little Jaguar club, the 'R' Club, we used to meet up for pub lunches at Elstead Mill and had a few trips out to Brooklands, Beaulieu etc.

Huge apologies if I have the wrong person! Like I say, it's been a while since I was on here!

Anyway, getting back to my Evoque dilemma, my reason for considering PCP/lease is that I had just spent all my capital on another two houses in Manchester, then my partner's mother decided she wanted to go into a care home. Long story but basically I took out a £10k loan to pay for her house to be refurbished for renting, the repayments are £600 pcm which I'm paying using the rent from one of my properties in Hampshire. I've never borrowed any money before, no mortgages, no loans, nothing... and I don't like it!!! So, my thinking is that if I sold my 2005 RRS, I could pay of the £10k and have a deposit for the Evoque on PCP, the monthly payments are pretty much the same, so the end result is: - a) I don't owe any money, b) I'm still paying £500 - £600 pcm, c) I get a new Evoque for bombing up and down the motorway to Manchester.

Does that make sense? I just need the best deal I can get as the care home fees are killing us!!

If you're doing Hampshire to Manchester frequently your mileage may kill any good PCP deals.

I live in West Sussex and find I can get away with a Manchester trip once every couple of months on average, I have other cars as well so that keeps the mileage down too smile

My 2pence worth, might be useful or not, everyone is different.

Just placed an order for a leased MY16 ED4 SE Tech (all std spec) for £1620 down then £270 for 47 months (8k miles per year)

I know you have gone for the higher spec, but thought i would share with you my deal to give you an idea

All the best with whatever you decide on.

Thanks for that Tony, do you mind me asking what company is that with?

Barretts Land Rover in Kent. I see the deal advertised with a lease company, but rang the dealer to see if he could match and he came up trumps. I might have saved myself an admin fee too.

Tony

edited too add, he actually beat the lease company deal by about 0.52p per month to make it £270 dead per month smile
