I thought i’d share my recent experience of having the wheels refurbished. Like quite a few of us, there wasn’t really anything wrong as such with the wheels, just a minor bit of curb marks and the inner sections had been engrained with dirt and brake dust for so long, that even a decent clay and machine polish didn’t bring them back to a decent condition.

Here’s an older pic of my starting to try to clean and get all the iron deposits off but they never really came up that nice.

I was also considering changing tyres so it seems a good opportunity to get the wheels done at the same time. I chose BJV Engineering based just north of Amersham on the outside of London. They cover mainly the M4/M40 corridors and some parts of London, and for small charge can come and collect your wheels and drop them off once they’re done, or just go drop your car off and pick it up at a later date.

I had trouble choosing the finish, mainly as the general consensus seems for Shadow Chrome. Whilst BJV can do this, and i’ve seen the results which look fantastic, I think for my lighter paintwork, I wanted to stick with something more akin to the factory standard. A quick chat with them and we decided on a powdercoat with a very high metallic content and then fully lacquered. At my request they also painted the inner sections in the same full on metallic as the outside of the wheel so as to keep them looking as bright as possible. They chemically stripped the wheels, checked them for straightness which is important on the spiders! and then powdercoated them. They also fully cleaned the mating surface so they sit perfectly back onto the hubs.

So off they went, and thanks to another PHer I had another set of wheels to use if they took a while to come back. I needn’t have worried as within a week they were back delivered, including the new tyres having been fitted.

To say i’m pleased is an understatement! The outside face and inner sections all have much more of a sparkle than before, and really set off the colour of my car (Ferrari Avio met). Now they’ve been on for a couple of weeks, I’m gonna get some GTechniq C5 and seal them properly so I can hopefully keep them gleaming for many months to come!

So onto some pics….

Looking good! Are those Brummmie's upgraded 330mm discs? If they are, how are they?

They look great. I've been looking to get mine done like this, can you give me an idea of the cost per wheel?

There are some indicative prices on their site http://www.wheelrefurbishing.co.uk/our-prices/ but the final prices depend on the paint and finish chosen so it's probably best to ring them for a full quote as they will tailor it to what you would want to do. thumbup
