Last month, we are told, the world enjoyed “its hottest March since records began in 1880”. This year, according to “US government scientists”, already bids to outrank 2014 as “the hottest ever”. The figures from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) were based, like all the other three official surface temperature records on which the world’s scientists and politicians rely, on data compiled from a network of weather stations by NOAA’s Global Historical Climate Network (GHCN).

But here there is a puzzle. These temperature records are not the only ones with official status. The other two, Remote Sensing Systems (RSS) and the University of Alabama (UAH), are based on a quite different method of measuring temperature data, by satellites. And these, as they have increasingly done in recent years, give a strikingly different picture. Neither shows last month as anything like the hottest March on record, any more than they showed 2014 as “the hottest year ever”.

it must be nice to be so rich that you don't mind people dipping into your wallet for no reason.

No where. Too much money tied up in it.

I hope these scientists have some clout.

It would indeed be interesting if they can make governments squirm.

That is not how scientific research funding works. Governments fund the scientists. Or don't, if they don't like what the scientists are saying.

An interesting story, but worth noting that the Global Warming Policy Foundation (which is doing the investigating) is not a neutral third party - it is fairly open about its aims to argue against anti-CO2 emission legislation/taxation, because it does not believe the science. I'm not saying they are wrong, just trying to make it clear that everyone has an agenda. I'll be interested to hear what they come up with! (My daily driver does 18mpg so anything which reduces fuel tax is alright by me.)

Scientists ALWAYS give the results which their paymasters want..... whether AGW or anti-AGW. Has been this way forever...
Independant Scientists get burned at the stake..
