How quick can I make a 1.2 TDi?
Discussion
...speaking from experience, I'd save your money for a year or so and spend your time keeping the car clean and looking nice if you want something to do, that way when you sell it you will get best value for it and you can upgrade to something punchier when insurance/funds allow.
My car history was...
0.9l mini 17 years old
1.0l 106 17 years old
1.8l nitrous ford focus 19 years old
1.8l tuned skoda octavia VRS 21 years old
(few rentals)
7.0l Z06 Corvette 26 years old
Perhaps not what you wanted to hear but it really is true that you can't polish a turd and my friend, a 1.2 tDi is a stinker...just enjoy being able to drive.

How well do you think all the modifications will go down with the insurance company? Or will you not bother declaring them?!
I think he has no intention of declaring any of the above or he wouldn't be talking about it. If he could afford the premium for doing that lot then he could afford to insure something like a 1.6l car...which would make tuning a 1.2 tDi redundant.I think all your figures are a tad optimistic, personally. As mentioned you really ought to declare your mods which will cost you a fortune, if you can even get anyone to cover you. A louder intake and exhaust would bring unwanted attention from the Police and then that's when your other mods unravel and land you in trouble!
Do the remap, if you really must, but you would likely gain more as a driver by spending your money on some advanced lessons or a trackday... which then has a knock on effect when you get a car with decent power.

After the lessons I'd say spend any spare money you've got on some high quality dampers (e.g. Bilstein B4) and premium tyres (if they're not fitted anyway). BTW this is posted in the full and complete knowledge that you'll take no notice whatsoever, but should you happen to read this in a few years time you'll hopefully understand its wisdom.

I reckon I could get you a couple of hundred BHP, massive turbo, big intercooler and lots of boost...
Just not for very long
Allegedly Rover quite regularly got 5-600 bhp out of turboed k-series engine, for a very short period of time, until they had electrical failure.. usually caused by the crank coming out of the block and ripping the wiring off the engine on the dyno

Didn't that used to be an F1 engine excuse "electrical problem" - which was the engine coming apart, etc?Just not for very long
