The slow death of Renault continues
Yeah a global year on year increase for 5 years is definitely a 'slow death' http://www.nissan-global.com/EN/NEWS/2015/_STORY/1...

Why apply their only credible brand RenaultSport to a sub brand designed to be purely functional? Why not start a DaciaSport badge to cover that?

I wish people would read things before saying stupid stuff.

My point being that if Renault's growth is coming as a result of reengineering last gen platforms for developing markets (regardless of what they are badged as) then 'five years of global sales growth' is not a great story.

Yes, Dacia is a big success, and the growth for all car makers is coming from emerging markets where people can't afford an Audi A3 so selling cost-reduced budget cars profitably to these customers is a key trend. It's not just Dacia, the reason they are visible is that they're also selling the cars in developed markets, but Peugeot have the 301, Ford the new Ka/Escort, Honda and Toyota also have big budget ranges but we don't see them in Western Europe.
Where Renault are actually doing well, and making good margins, is in cars like the Captur and Clio, and I'm sure the Kadjar will follow the same path. They look good, they're well built and people buy them because they like them rather than just on price. This drives up transaction prices and makes them more profitable than someone like Vauxhall/Opel who sell to pragmatic customers who are more likely to be tempted by a Dacia.
Renault are on the up in Europe, they're building cars people actually want to buy and making money while they do it. This is far from a 'slow death'
Dacia have been listening to me.

There's been a couple of mentions of hot Clios and the reluctance of consumers to buy truly basic cars and therefore reluctance of manufacturers to offer them.
This got me thinking about Dacia.
Dacia hopes it's niche will be providing a basic cheap car to consumers who don't want the fripperies of mainstream cars. Wouldn't it be great if Dacia could rock up with a small hatch (smaller than the Sandero), packed full of Clio / Twingo parts bin parts and a range of engines including the renaultsport 2.0L, and market it at less than ten grand?

Renaults credibility has been nothing but improving For the last few years due to a decent range, good warranties and a tie in with Nissan which has made the cars infinitely more reliable. Your remarks about a 'slow death' are stupid, I stand by my original comments.
I think the 2ltr from 182 would be awesome. Sub £10k would be even better. Agreed with above they shouldn't use the Renault sport badge start another Daciasport is a great idea. cheap clio cup style race series or participation in a race or rally series would only give it extra credibility a bit like the duster dakar cars

Since when?
Most recent car I can think of without, off the top of my head, The Noble M600?
ASM yes, but afaik not ABS?
eta: ok according to wikipedia, in the EU since 2007, so before the M600?
and according to an old thread on here, since 2004?
I suppose there's a different rule for small volume?

If you drew a venn diagram of Dacia customers and hot hatch/racing enthusiasts the intersection in the middle would be tiny though. There are a lot of other demographic groups more worthy of their marketing spend sadly.jamiebae said:

I'm definitely in there.A Golf sized hatch with 180-ish bhp for around £12-15k? Yes please.
