The cheapest website I can find is DoYouSpain? Does anyone else know where I can get some cheap car hire?

Cheers!

I use RentalCars a lot. Argus are ok. Some offer free 2nd driver and the refuel policy is an important additional cost, especially if you're not going to use much fuel during your stay.

Check out the reviews on the one you are looking at now before proceeding.

The outfits in Spain are slowly and surely turning over to full to full fuel policies. Interrent and Firefly have both done / are doing it so make sure you're comparing like with like. Hopefully the others will follow suit soon.

There aren't many big players left when it comes to brokers and in all likelihood you're buying from one of three majors that are white labelling or reselling the same thing.

Check Expedia. Check Auto Europe. Check Rental Cars...

Just picked up this thread as I'm off to Ibiza later this month. There seems to be a gulf in prices between prepaid petrol and traditional 'full to full'.

Just wondered how much to expect to pay for a full tank? I'm a bit concerned about paying for a full tank as we went last year and I used €40 despite driving loads, it's only a small island!

Oh and there's also a €25 'service charge' - looks like they're all following the Ryanair pricing model.

Thanks for the arsey reply. Was going to suggest a very good local firm that I use if you were flying to a particular airport.

We've used Sixt twice in Majorca.

Cheaper than the big names but still offer near-new cars with full-waiver policy included and none of this fuel shenanigans. Queues at airport were also nearly non-existent, unlike a couple of the budget hire-companies...

Holiday autos always work out pretty well for me as a comparison site. Not arsed if it comes up with no name hire cos. firefly's fuel policy was totally st though. Glad it's changed as I have 2 hires with them over next 2 months.

It has only just changed, so may not apply to your booking.. double check as you may want to rebook.

Earlier today I started a thread regarding my recent experiences with GoldCar rental in Spain. Unfortunately the moderators removed it as it contravened the "Name and Shame" policy.

So...GoldCar run a fantastic and wonderfully honest business, their pricing policy is totally transparent, their employees are scrupulously polite and you won't endure any nasty shocks when you scrutinise your credit card statement at the end of the month. Doubtless your transit through the airport whether you are collecting or returning your car will be seamless and a truly joyous experience. Just a quick Google search will confirm that GoldCar run Mother Teresa a very close second when it comes to universal popularity and adulation.

However I would not necessarily put them top of the list of recommended rental car companies...

However - when I extricated myself from my overwhelming GoldCar experience I was speaking to a guy in the check-in queue - he had very happily hired a Ford Focus for a long weekend from a comparison website called "Kayak". He was (genuinely) v. happy with the experience and claimed it had cost him a total of £12. I wasn't sure whether to believe him - but have just looked at a quote on Kayak for a 7 day rent from Malaga today - £11.80 for an Opel Corsa for the complete week !!

Incidentally always worth buying excess hire car insurance for a complete year - easily available on line from companies such a ihirecarinsurance.com for about £40 pa.

Careful. They'll be getting more money back from you in some other, less clear means.

Doyouspain has some fantastic deals as long as you click on every tab and read every last T&C. The rental companies don't really care if you go nuts at the desk as they know they have the upper hand and they just tell you to get lost.

The funniest experience I ever had with car hire in Mallorca was when we went to pick up a car with a company called OK and they had more staff dealing with complaints than new customers. WE were stuck for about an hour and EVERY car returned who never took out advanced insurance seemed to have a scratch or bump that would cost around a thousand euros to fix. People were going nuts but they charged the card then threw them out.

we hired a car in dubrovnik to around to montenegro. On arrival the guy told me it was immaculate. I insisted on checking it over fully, as everyone should, and when doing so I found the roof, bonnet and wings were pock-marked all over with small dents, almost like the surface of a golf ball. Turns out that week they'd had the biggest thunder, lightning and hail storm the country had seen in living memory. All the cars were ruined by massive hailstones, about the size of a golf ball too. We saw this with our own eyes that evening as it did it again. Spectacular. The guy just shrugged when i pointed it out and that was that.
