Off for a week next month.

We've been before but wondered if anyone had any suggestions for things to do? We will have our 1 year old daughter with us so stuff needs to be baby friendly.

We are staying in Portreath but have the car so don't mind a bit of a drive.

We'll be going back to St Ives for a day and also Padstow but looking for some new things as well.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

My parents live in Portreath, lovely little village.

Try the Poldark Mine, not far from Portreath (not for fatties though as bit of a squeeze in places)

Looking for a good place for lunch? Try The Pandora In at Restronguet. It's gastro pub right beside a tributary of the River Fal estuary. Lots of outside seating, great views etc. One major problem: parking...so get there early or see if the ferry boat is running from Falmouth.

Whilst there, seek out the gold painted Post Office box in recognition of Ben Ainsley's Olympic achievements in 2012 etc.

St Ives is a nightmare to park, so we catch the train in from the Park and Ride at Lelant Saltings. Its only about 10 minutes and views from the train across the Hayle estuary are fabulous

Or hire a boat from Loe Beach and take that around to the Pandora. Sams on the Beach at Polkerris, Godolphin in Marazion (the view of Mounts Bay and St michaels mount is pretty impressive) and the Victoria Inn in Perranuthanoe are really nice places to eat if you don't mind a bit of a drive. According to my wife, Gwel an Mor (at the top of the hill out of Portreath) is good too. The Red River in Gwithian has decent food and is a great place to have a few drinks. Not too sure about the pubs in Portreath though, I generally go down there either to walk the dogs or for the surf.

Lelant beach is lovely and ideal if you have a dog as it's dog friendly all year round. Carbis Bay is another nice beach.

Tehidy woods is just up the hill from Portreath and there are often various outdoor theatre things there.

The Track, between Portreath and Redruth, is apparently very good if you are into bmx/mountain bikes.

Another vote for the Lost Gardens of Heligan, we went there and the Eden project on consecutive days and reckoned Heligan was better.

Cheers all.

We have been to Cornwall a few times so know all about the park & ride at St Ives (the Food Fair is on the first weekend we are there) but some nice new stuff to look into.

I probably prefer Heligan. It's very nice but it does help if the weathers good as its, obviously, outside.

The lizard, kynance Cove(can be busy), Cape Cornwall, Botallack mines (my favourite), coast up from chapelporth, all great places for a wander.

Helford river just south of falmouth is fab, park at Mawnan church and walk along the coast path up river, great spot for a bbq or walk a few miles and reach the pub! As mentioned above, Pandora has good food, take your crabbing gear!

Minack theatre and Porthcurno are nice (especially a visit to the telegraph museum).

Falmouth is a great place with lots of foodie places, good pubs and shops (if you are into that).

Thread hijack alert

Also planning a visit as a surprise for the misses...neither of us have been before

Can anyone recommend the best place to stay? We would be looking for somewhere as a base that has a few places to eat and is ok for jumping in the car and heading out during the day, or is ok to stay in should we want a lazy day

Will be considering things such as the Eden project etc etc... Can work that out but the best place to stay is where I am struggling?

Also....cottage / self catering or hotel?

Finally....anyone able to recommend a decent horse riding company offering those hacks / tours etc?

Appreciated

Shameless plug - My friends run The Rathgowry in Falmouth, they have been there for 2 years, Tripadvisor tells a good story.
