SC'd Vs Honda'd Elise/Exige

I'be been considering an Elise or exige for a while now. I used to own an S2000 and loved the VTEC engine. In fact, I've realised that it's high revving engines and a playful chassis that are really what I like in a driver's car. Therefore, I'm considering which engine to eventually go for. Not sure a 111r will be quick enough. Always fancied an SC'd motor as I prefer the linear power to turbo. A VTEC engine would be awesome but serious cash. Is the grunt and spine tingling engine note of a VTEC really worth the investment over an SC'd Elise/exige? Is the Toyota engine as infectious ?
