Before I throw it in the garage thought I'd ask for some advice
When I fill the car up to the brim it leaks petrol pretty spectacularly from what appears to be the top of the fuel tank. I've checked the fuel filler pipe and that's bone dry aswell as the fuel pump from the inside as I've seen that's a common problem also and seems pretty dry aswell. Any other ideas before I have to send it to the garage and have the tank off? Cheers.

Looks like I was wrong. I belive it's the o ring directly beneath the fuel locking ring but can't get the ring off. Seems to be a tiny bit of fuel on top of the cap there now I've filled up.

This is def the problem - Very, very common issue. - Removing the ring requires either a special tool, or if you're me, you get two flat head screw drivers, a mate and co-ordinate each other to push in opposite directions to remove with one screw driver on either side of the ring . Can be done, but MUCH easier with two of you doing it. replacement seal is cheap from Volvo. Mine on my C70 needs doing but I've been so busy recently, my solution is simply only fill it 3/4 full!

You'll smell it from outside the rear of the car as it will run down the side of the tank - Can fail an MOT on this so be aware.

Also, be careful not to pinch the new seal as you do it up as it will leak again
