Don't know if anyone has noticed this immaculately restored motor on Brightwells auction site mid May at Leominster, but the guide price indicates a bargain for somebody... sadly not me already have an 'M' but if not would be sorely tempted !

all the four 3000M's for sale at the moment have the handbrake in the center. Does that mean they have all had the chassis changed

I don't know anything about these but am seriously tempted because I've always liked the 3000M. What else is wrong with it? Would there be enough room in it for someone over 6 foot as I had to rule out a TVR S a few years back because of this. Would this be any different? Thanks.

Stockpie (the OP) is pretty tall and fits in a 3000M.

Depends how much over 6ft you are, and what your body/leg ratio is. Potentially very cramped..

I am a bit over 6 foot and long in the leg. Mind you I used to have a frogeye sprite and once in was okay. Saying that in both the frogeye and a Mk1 MX5 I feel I am sitting on rather than in the car and the forehead tends to get a bit of a battering with the top down!

I am 6'4 and a 35 inside leg, I don't have issues with my M. You will have to try one out for size, would suggest bribing a willing owner at a meeting/show etc

so the différences for the Martin are: handbrake side of tunnel, is tinted glass also martin because my 1600M has tinted from new, maybe wolfrace alloys, are the seats different, maybe the o/d gearbox, paintwork and badges.

All Martins' were brown with light brown band with Martin in the side

All had O/D gearbox hence the handbrake on the side

All had Wolfraces tinted glass, sunroof and cassette radio as standard

Stockpie here - am 6 ft tall & 33" inside leg myself but have to say that extra width of TVR 3000m does make it feel a bit roomier than my Mgb gt. My left knee does touch the base of the steering wheel when using the clutch but fine when its 'resting'. Anyway thats enough about my vital statistics.

Like all old cars & even some new ones seating arrangements are a fine art. Tell you what buy the one at Brightwells & if its too small I will buy it off you at half price........

Adrian has all the knowledge and experience to entitle him to be picky but for me it's just an M that looks well restored but I'm not convinced about the desirability of the Martin thing.
If I ever get another M it would have to be the earlier chrome bumper/single body colour version, the late seventies shades of brown colour schemes I just could not live with.

A shame its leaving good old Blighty & will be a long way from Blackpool. Just been reading Brightwells terms & conditions (tsk..must get out more) buyer will have to fork out VAT & buyers premium before putting it on that ship so will cost our Swedish friend fair bit more than £13.7 k I guess.

Not as bad as it seems if you are talking about charges in this country, VAT at auctions is usually only payable on the premium.

For Classic & Vintage Vehicles 10%+VAT (e.g. on a hammer price of £10,000 you pay £1,000 premium + £200 VAT to give a total of £11,200, assuming a VAT rate of 20%)

No idea what the Swedish government charge when it gets to the other end though

Regards

Nick
