Hi Guys

My trusty samsung plasma has developed a fault and needs replacing I think.

I am looking for something sub £700, doesn't need to be a smart TV. Preferably 50" or slightly bigger.

Any recommendations?

Google LG and their global dimming "feature". I wished I'd known about it before I bought mine.

So, avoid LG.

Sony 50" Bravia KDL-50W815B, smart TV + built in satellite reception if you order it from these people.

It's an import. Yours for £599.00

Sounds lazy, but Samsung's range is huge and they offer good VFM in every price class.

Both of the above are great tv's for the money.

Another vote for Samsung. I have the slightly older UE46F6320 and it's great.

Just to update this, I bought this one Samsung UE55H6670 55 inch, £679.88

Staggering difference to my 7 year old samsung model.

Thanks

To reiterate. My Panasonic 42PX60 plasma finally died and I was very wary about replacing it with a modern set as I was concerned about picture quality. Reviews/research etc led me to buying a Samsung UE48H6400, but not without some trepidation.

I've been through and calibrated all the video settings using avforums and I have to say the picture is nothing short of outstanding. Flesh tones look completely natural with no blotchiness or pixellation and the blacks are deep and detailed. Colours look spot on and I can't detect any motion blur either. It was also a total bargain at a smidge over 500 quid. I really am impressed.
