i was looking at my driving licence today and noticed something odd with the catagories and there codes. they look as follows.

B with codes 01,78

B1 with codes 01

am i correct to say that i am NOT restricted to a 4 wheeled vehicle under 550kg with an auto transmission?

01 code = glasses etc
78 = auto only

B1 is a subcategory of B

yes i understand what the codes mean but why is only the b class restricted and not the b1? they put eyesight correction on both so why not restricted to auto?

B1 Four wheeled light vehicles
• Motor vehicles with four wheels
up to 400kg unladen weight or
550kg for vehicles intended for
carrying goods.

I have no idea why but can only guess that B1s are not made as autos ............

Are there many B1 vehicles about?

To drive a quad bike on the road you need to have a full car licence or a category B1 licence if it was issued before January 1997.
