Hi,

I'm after some local knowledge if possible. I grew up in South Wales and my wife in Bristol and we currently live in Cambridgeshire. However, we both want to be closer to our aging families so looking to move back to somewhere in between.

My favourite location is Shirenewton so does anyone have any experience or comments on it?

Many thanks smile

Do you mean the Cardiff Shirenewton? I presumed the op was talking about Chepstow way.

Yep, I'm considering the village near Chepstow.

My queries would be:
- quality of local schools (both children are currently primary age)
- quality of local hostelries. We went in the Tredegar Arms on the weekend which seemed perfectly nice.
- village community.
- any issues that we should know about but are not necessarily common knowledge (eg planning applications for windfarms, etc).

We're moving from a similar sized village which has a great pub, really good community, etc and I don't want to miss that.

Thanks.

Shirenewton's nice, if a little quiet. The TA does a great Sunday lunch (go for the Sunday best smile

Some great driving roads there too.

Personally, Magor/Undy has a lot more to it, more going on etc yet still maintains the country village feel.

Can't really offer any advice on the other aspects sorry.

I was up walking around Shirenwton in the week, some really lovely houses about, quite a few for sale, though some are quite pricey!

Shirenewton is very vice, but look at Llanvachas and Parc Seymour also. TA has a great menu and there are lots of other good places to eat; Woodlands Tavern (Llanviar Discoed), The Rock and Fountain (Penhow), Indian Cottage.

There is a primary school in Shirenewton which has a good reputation, the primary / junior school at Lnagstone is one of the best in Newport. There is also St John's private school in Chepstow. There are also local beaver/ cubs / rainbows / brownies for the children.

The whole area is beautiful, you are right next to Wentwood. Great for walks, mountain biking, fishing, etc...
