Hi everyone,

I'm due to relocate to Oman in the next few weeks and thought I'd throw a post out there to see if there are any other petrolheads in the Muscat area...

Also - does anyone have any recommendations on shouty-cars for the Omani roads?

I left Oman a few months ago.

Oman is less flashy with it's cars than the UAE and Qatar.

Also, Omanis are the BEST arabs you will meet. I was unfortunate enough to live in Jabal Akhdar, I'm sure you will visit when you are there.

Personally, I'd be inclined on a wrangler in Oman. Saw quite a few datsun 240z.

There's nothing too special with the cars in Oman.

Just want to add.... Speeding fines..... enjoy the roughly 17gbp a pop when they are actually working....
i hit 18 in 3 months... only 6 came through. From then on I just took the flashes as an extra tax.

I did 2 years in Muscat 2002-2004, then 10 years in Dubai. Been in Saudi for about a year.

Muscat is a great place, was sadly lacking nightlife for a young ex-pat but seems to have gotten better over the years.

It is great for offroad exploring so definitely go for a decent 4x4. Try and get a Wrangler from an ex-pat (check the PDO boards) as they will be better looked after/modified.

If I was to go back I'd go for a cheap older Jeep and a boat. The fishing and diving are fantastic.

Just left Oman in Feb,

Had an Nissan Xterra for my time there which served me really well. As said, A wranglers a great option, but a The Xterra's can be had cheap, 4.0 V6 and decent at Wadi bashing, dune Bashing. People who do this sort of thing in Oman Either have one of these two or an FJ cruiser. The Land cruisers are great on the dunes, but if you can pinch a Ford Raptor.... Then your pretty much covered! Sleep in the back too!!

Loveley place to live, can thouroughly recommend getting a boat (or a share in one) for your time there, some great places to visit and a good boating fraternity too! Down at Bandar Khayran for a spot of Wakeboarding and partying, and plenty of fishing around oman... Tuna, Sail fish, Maui Maui can all be had!

And there can be a nightlife scene, but its true theres not a huge array of bars... and not close, but there are beach parties and always good house parties to be had!!

Spent 4 years (2011-2015) working in Oman during the week. Xterra are perfect for 2 people (plenty of grunt when gunning it down the back roads between Nizwa and Sur).

I found Oman to be very relaxed and yes the locals are very friendly. Golf Clubs and the Marina (Wave) is where you find a fair few expats.

Well I've been in country for just over a month now - tried all the usual Land Cruisers, X-Terras and Pajeros etc but couldn't fit into any of them! Not enough head room and/or shoulder room for such big SUVs (as in when sitting in the Land Cruiser, my head was out of the sun roof).

Ended up getting a 3 door Golf R for day to day fun smile
