Integra Type R DC2 knocking engine - repair or sell as is ?

Posting on behalf of my son really. He has just MOT'd his 1996 Integra Type R DC2 but it has suddenly developed an engine knock so my question is simple. Do we sell it as is (its a really clean car with a stack of paper work) or repair or replace the engine ?

I am leaning towards selling it as it is but I don't really know what its worth with the engine like that. It was worth around £4300 before if it helps. Just wanna make the best of a bad situation for him really.

Might be worth getting someone to look at it. I would highly recommend TGM Sport, perhaps give them a call and speak to Tom. They are highly recommended on the Type R owners forums and I myself use them for all the work I have done on my DC5 Integra.

If the car is in good condition and he enjoys driving his DC2 Integra, I would replace or repair the B18C engine.

The car is in lovely condition but a grand to repair it is too much for his pocket unfortunately. I think he is gonna have to sell it tbh.

Hopefully an enthusiast with a spare engine or bigger plans buys it. It would be a shame for a good condition DC2 to be broken.

He'll lose more, effectively, on selling as-is and buying a replacement...but depends if he can afford a small loan or not...

He has sold it for 3 grand yesterday and I think he has done well to be honest. Anyway he is picking up a Nissan 200sx tonight - kids eh ?
