Hi all - right, have decided I need an M5 in my life.
There are pros and cons on new vs. used but have decided on new order. Would really appreciate advice on what is must/nice to have from the options list from those who already live with one day to day.
Also any thoughts on the % discount off list I should be targeting?

I bought one in the last quarter and got 14% discount + £2k contribution from BMW and 0%
Can't think of any real "must haves" as the standard spec is fairly inclusive. 4000 miles into mine now and as a personal preference I wouldn't be without the adaptive LEDs but then I live in the middle of nowhere. Surround view + top down is also a handy one.
I also saved a few grand by sticking with the standard alloys which I suspect give a slightly more compliant ride on our stty roads.
ETA there is one I forgot about - M multifunction seats - haven't done extensive time in the standard sports seats but for £875 before discount I think this is an option well worth having.

Thanks Neil - was the 14% on the base price or options also?
Got to admit I had already earmarked surround view on the basis it looks amazing more than any practical benefit
That was 14% dealer discount on car and options. My car was just shy of £80k list including service inclusive (which is absolutely essential - try and get it thrown in as mentioned by another poster - I think I paid for mine but was happy with the overall deal).Got to admit I had already earmarked surround view on the basis it looks amazing more than any practical benefit
It goes without saying - delete any paint protection and insurance they might try to automatically add... I paid a detailer to polish and protect mine... and ALA provided a much better gap product for a fraction of BMW's quote.
The car is just sensational - now onto 4k miles in 7 weeks and I'm still like a kid at Christmas with every opportunity to take it out. Have you driven one?
I was just reading about your TVR so now realise that any notion of 300bhp/ton being fast doesn't really wash with you
The duality is exactly what appealed to me - mine is soaking up business miles like mad, serving as family transport for 5 and will be taking me to a few far flung European destinations in the coming months, all whilst putting a grin on my face when opportunities allow. Can't think of anything I'd rather have for the job though I'm sure RS6 and AMG would both tick most of the same boxes.
Giod luck - let us know if you order. Azurite or ruby black with platinum or champagne would be my favourites but I had to draw a line somewhere on cost so stuck to standard colours - imperial blue and silverstone leather. Its certainly understated.

Xirillac is a variation on metallic - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xirallic
Like many dark colours it can look quite dull when dirty but is a very striking paint when clean - in good light it has a deep blue almost indigo hue and in darker conditions it looks a lot like carbon black.

hhhmmm...looks good. Potentially £1k saved
not saved - transferred personally I'd swap individual colour for M multifunction seats, or 20" alloys for adaptive LEDs, but then I am doing more miles than most owners and would rather spent money on comforts than looksAll the colours have been well documented over at bimmerpost - http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6320...
If you assume a final selling price of 70k, a 3 yr PCP 10k a year, will give a residual of around 34k. If it's 0%, no reason to pay any deposit at all, so that produces payments of 1k a month. After 3 years, hand back, pay 34 to keep or if the car were to be in the money on a px (IMHO unlikely save that a dealer makes you feel good by increasing px but reducing discount on new by same) trade in for delta as cash back or deposit on new.
Surround View is a great feature & defo upgrade the Sound System to HK. Personally i prefer the standard 19" wheels & more so as most M5's have the 20's so the 19's to most appear the option wheel. Most body colours benefit from the Sun Protection glass as it looks good against the gloss black highlights & stuff like Internet is worth it due to the low cost.
Not convinced about the LED's as the standard car has the clever adaptive headlamps so LED's only offer a touch of brightness rather than improved functionality.
Above all, just enjoy the car

I opted for this on my car, its early days but so far I've found it utterly pointless. Overtake assist is a much better use of the money imo.
Unfortunately my parking OCD requires me to park straight in spaces & it's either Surround View or hang out of the door. Never fancied a Brian Harvey incident so i like knowing the proximity of everything around my car & Surround View provides that. Have also used the forward/front side cameras several times when pulling out on blind bends, but far less so than the parking advantages. What's overtake assist? Please tell me it's not the is there a car next to me indicator
