I would advise looking at a few and taking a few test drives. A good warranty will help. Check for full service history. Notable problems can be the air suspension compressor, check it cycles fully up and down without faults. Also bushes wear prematurely on suspension components. Handbrake issues. If you find a looked after one it'll be one of the best cars you own

Aim to get a 3.0 disco 4
XS spec is the pick of the bunch (HSE have all the toys but at your budget there is still upto £5k diff between them)

Get yourself on disco4.co.uk ...always a few well looked after ones and list of woes

Disco 4s at that price are either poverty spec GS models or high mileage XS ones.

They are built to take the miles and wear them but you may need to give a few suspension bits a refresh.
It does weigh 2.7 tons so they get a hard life.

You will get a last of the line Disco3 for that budget, avoid the 07 year range. They have an oil pump casing problem.
Unless it's had evidence of the pump being changed when the belts have been done, I would walk.

As said, check the compressor works. Cycle it up and down a few times from access to off road height. On start up, it should run for 30 seconds max to build up the pressure. Any longer and you have a tired compressor. Mine has been tired for over a year now, still works, just noisy and takes its time to build up pressure.. hehe

Knocking over bumps is front lower ball joints, clunk under braking is front lower arm bushes. Cheapest way is to replace arms.
Jack the rear up and give the wheel a tug, rear upper arms can wear out and give soggy handling.

Batteries are 4 years then change. Lots of faults can be traced to a dying battery or alternator.

You mIght be lucky to pick one up privately at your top budget.
I got one in January, a Dec 2009 3.0 TDV6 XS spec, 2 owner, FSH, 68k miles, complete with the remainder of a Land Rover extended warranty till Nov this year.
Paid £21k for it, but sold the Prospeed roof rack and dog/cargo cage that came with it for £700 and £150 respectively, so effectively paid a touch over £20k.
Very practical, capable and great driving position. I'm enjoying mine, although as to be expected, it does feel clumsy at roundabouts if pushing on.
