Probably the worst kept secret amongst a fair few of you on here but following the death of my boss my company has been closed down, I have been made redundant and will be leaving Dubai on June 27th

Purpose of this post is twofold... firstly if anyone hears of any vacancies in the IT field I'd be interested in hearing the details.

Secondly, I have to sell pretty much everything I own here in Dubai so if you're looking for anything in particular give me a shout lol

Would be nice to do goodbye beers nearer departure date.

Hey Del, that sucks mate.

Out of curiosity, why back to the UK 'immediately'? I'm sure something workwise will come up and we've all done the odd visa run when necessary.

Sorry to hear your news, that sucks.

I returned to the UK in Jan '13, can give details of the shipping company I used if you need it. They were well priced and offered a good service, not the red carpet service but were more affordable. I'd suggest bringing the Fezza back and selling it here, whenever you want to sell it. You have to keep it 12 months before you can sell it duty and tax free, but I'm sure you wil get a lot more for it here (and if you don't want to sell it, bring it back here and use it!).

We had a 40ft container, half for house and half for one car, worked out well. Less than AED30k IIRC, full pack and unpack service. Did get stung for a central London surcharge for the unpack though.

I'm heading back to England because the rent on my current place is up at the end of June and there seems to be no point in paying out to rent another place when I have a place sat empty in the UK.

The Ferrari is going back, leaving here at the end of the month heading for England... I plan on using it to tour Europe a little before possibly selling it in a years time.

I'm aiming to get straight back into the ex-pat game though, I really don't want to remain in the UK!

Not got much in the way of garage gear Phil, will take a look and let you know.

Sorry to hear that. I know of a few people who are moving - do you have a list of what you have and I can pass on to them.

I may be interested in anything of an electronic nature

Cheers

We're planning to move back to the UK end of March next year.

I'll have done 12 years by then and that's plenty long enough.

So it will be interesting to see who you use for shipping etc...

in which case james if you do want to take advantage of a vat free import, now's the time to buy.

One small hitch mate - one of the main reasons for going back is so we can get the missus naturalised. So we need to keep a minimum of £62,500 in savings (for at least 6 months before we go back), just sat there doing nothing for 5 years until she can qualify for Indefinite Leave to Remain. It's not a problem but it does curtail spending any other significant amounts of dosh. I intend to buy a biff-machine for day to day and something funky for me to tinker on and boot around the lanes when the mood takes me. Think Westfield or some such.

I told her it would be far easier if I just dropped her off a Calais so she could hitch over. She's not having any of it...

Sorry to hear that Del.

Not seen you for ages, but was - from memory- at the first beers, at the madinat with Phil, and shall be at the last.
Fingers crossed something turns up for you.

For the last 7 years I've been the IT and Comms Manager for an Oil and Gas company with responsibility for all aspects of IT and Comms from long term project planning and budget responsibilities through day-to-day maintenance and user support worldwide.

I do a bit of everything I suppose, if it has a plug on it, it falls under my remit lol

Sorry to hear about your losses, and godspeed on your future endeavors.

I'm curious as to what you are parting with. I may be interested, depending on what's being offered. Drop me an e-mail and we can carry it on from there.

Thanks, we are are a large(ish) IT department.....Happy to put a CV in if you like. We've got open positions for PMs and a couple of other roles, although I'm not sure that fits you.

I'd tried to PM you, but cant find the button? (and I work in IT?) :-)

I'll do my damnest to be there.

Great - just mentioned to the wife that I was going to pop in and say hello and I've been royally bked for forgetting some craparse dinner with her mate and new boyfriend that was arranged weeks ago. It's not even close as it's up our end of town (Trade Centre).

Definitely sort something out soon though.
