Here's a fun fact that surprised me when I heard it today.

Rosberg has never won back to back F1 races. Can he break the jinx this weekend?

I can't see them using an exact setup for Spain here, Monaco is surely far more bumpy, will need more ride height, softer springs, different damping rates etc..

Meantime, some driving hints for Nico whistle

Seems Tabac is creating some problems: https://twitter.com/suttonimages/status/6014723860...

ETA, if you really are a fan (not just someone who enjoys their rose tinted glasses and telling everyone how wonderful it all was years ago), do fill in the surveys:

the other me said:
SeeFive, your idea has merit, but. . . . . . during the 2 day post race test at Barcelona, Rosberg did more than the equivalent of 2 GP's in laps, & beat his Saturday pole time on Tuesday.

Lewis went partying ? or had something more pressing, leaving their test driver to do Day2.

I think whatever HAM managed to do as regards optimising the set-up for Sector3/ Monaco during a normal GP weekend in Barcelona, will have been undone by the opportunity to concentrate on Sector 3 ROS gave himself by competing more than 130 laps during the test day.
There we go - I have not been following closely, and it shows that the notion was more than far fetched.

It was the idle musings of someone with too much time on his hands without much data I am afraid.

Fun idea though wink

After practice today, here is a really wild notion, probably highly unrealistic but a notion nonetheless.

Let's set the scene for this. So Rosberg has won the last 2 Monaco GPs. A hat trick would not do his ego, confidence and reputation much harm. Lewis desperately wants to win Monaco following the shenanigans last year - perhaps moreso than Catalunya and wants to keep Rosberg's confidence as low as possible long term versus a small boost that a win in Spain could provide.

Drivers say that the final sector of the Catalunya GP is quite "Monagasque". So knowing that he will do well and maybe still win whatever he does on setup in Spain, could his side of the garage have focussed on getting the car right for that final section of the track in order to be fast out of the box today, and improve that setup during practice ensuring an advantage over Rosberg? I haven't looked at the comparative times from different Catalunya sectors at all and how Hamilton's may have changed over the weekend, just running my mind and keyboard blindly.

What would be more important to either of them, the win in Spain or the win in Monaco given the recent history between the two of them? There are all sorts of possibilities influencing that decision, but if I could take a clear advantage to Monaco to enable me to win whilst keeping the car off the barriers by driving at less than 100% compard to my team mate, I would risk a 2nd place in Spain.

It is not totally beyond the bounds of reality as the mind games are pretty important, and if Hamilton can break Rosberg's winning hat trick at Monaco in the same car, there is a mental advantage for him going forward - probably larger than beating him in Spain.

Wildly tinfoil hattish, but I thought I would throw the idle thought out there given the gap between them after P2.

Of course all of this depends on having an ability to hide some level of data from your team mate in the Merc team. I will now don my nomex... Flame away.
No flaming here, I think the idea has merit.
Actually, no, it's bks. You should, and do I believe, know better. Think about it, there are so many reasons why you just wouldn't do this.

I went enthusiastically into the survey, but then had to go slowly to conserve phone power, but after just 10 questions I lost my grip suddenly and had to stop for a while.

The survey was probably written before the drivers even knew about the proposed changes ...

I did the same. I also said the advertising and sponsorship has no effect on my purchases, and that's the truth. I will never understand bank and oil advertising.

I'm amazed that Crofty and De Resta both missed that he'd hit the wall, even when they said "lets have a look" as the on board footage played. He very obviously hit the wall!

Same here - could be interesting when they get the results and see the overwhelming negativity regarding the "endorsements" etc.

Didn't catch up on the FP3 but, well well well, what do we have here...Ferrari on top. scratchchin

Still, I'm expecting a bit more pace to come from the Mercs and Ferraris. The FP3 time is not far away from last year's pole and I would expect atleast one of the Mercs and Ferraris beat that time. Qualifying is gonna be interesting.

There was a lot of traffic ruining laps. (Particularly Lewis at the end)

Having said that, I have had a small bet on Vettel to get pole. (Not that I really expect him to)

i would say it would have been close between vettel and hamilton if the merc had the right pressures as hamilton didn't improve during last laps.

Williams last year and this is quick, but suffers with a lack of downforce, so Monaco kinda sucks. They are having trouble getting heat in to the tyres, even the option.

A 1.16.5 from LH. NR on 1.17. Next is Vettel on 1.18.
