Simple mistake from Mercedes today. However it could have gone other way with Seb on fresh supersofts picking off the Mercs then folk would still be moaning.
Wrong call today could be correct call tomorrow and it seems Lewis knows it - but lots of over reacting fan bois !
You realise we are talking about Monaco right? They could have been on Cole Trickles 'special match tyres' and you aren't going past anyone on this track. Wrong call today could be correct call tomorrow and it seems Lewis knows it - but lots of over reacting fan bois !
at Monaco track position is king. simple. 12 or so laps left of the race - at least 4 of them behind the safety car - you don't need a maths/ engineering degree to undertsand this equates to:- stay the eff out.
methinks too many are under-selling just how much of a f**K-up that really was. as another poster put it 'utter madness'
Grosjean's move of letting Vettel through but defending against Verstappen was one of the best I have ever seen. utterly brilliant.

You mean Daniel is pronouncing his own name correctly or Horner?
Believe it or not Horner is pronouncing it correctly, but Daniel says it the way his family do. As for the actual racing, gutted for Lewis, he handled it well though, these things happen, onwards and upwards! Glad Max is ok, I though Grosjean broke very early tbh, dont think it was quite as cut and dry as Max just ramming him.

LH: "You rely on the team and I saw a screen and it looked like the team was out," said Hamilton.
"I thought the guys behind were pitting so when the team said stay out, I said these tyres would drop in temps and what I was concerned they were on options – so with that thinking I came in with the full confidence that the others had done the same."
And that should have gone like this:"I thought the guys behind were pitting so when the team said stay out, I said these tyres would drop in temps and what I was concerned they were on options – so with that thinking I came in with the full confidence that the others had done the same."
"Negative Lewis, gap isn't big enough for a pit stop, even if Vettel stops he can't catch you or Nico in the laps left".

How do you know they didn't say that, or words to that effect? As Lewis says, the team did tell him to stay out.

That was no balls up.......it was called in for the benefit of the sport overall.
Lewis's lead to Rosberg and Vettel has now been cut in half........F1 could not afford Hamilton to open up a big gap too early in the season. Everyone would switch to another channel.
I heard that Nessie was spotted in Monaco harbour at the end of the race as well. Lewis's lead to Rosberg and Vettel has now been cut in half........F1 could not afford Hamilton to open up a big gap too early in the season. Everyone would switch to another channel.
As soon as I saw Hamilton in the pit lane I was wondering what the hell they were doing!
I had hoped for some reason Rosberg was coming in also and Vettel could have swept through for the win.
I expected Hamilton to do his petulant child routine, but he's held it together so far.
Big questions though...I wonder how much he called this also? How did the team even think it was an option?
There just wasn't any advantage in doing this stop or risking a problem in the pits. Even if Vettel had pitted he would have dropped back and still found it unlikely he could have overtaken anyway.
Any other circuit than Monaco then this call may have made sense but to any experienced fan, this call was hopeless.
Rosberg has been very humble with his comments. I can't believe his conduct has been questioned. What else can he do but take the win. He's still every right to be happy about it.
Hamilton & his side of the garage cocked up... That's how it goes sometimes.

Wasn't hindsight. I said it as soon as they were in the pitlane. No need to stop. How do you know they didn't say that, or words to that effect? As Lewis says, the team did tell him to stay out.
fks sake, even Damon and Johnny on Sky knew it was wrong.
Are you seriously telling me that you think stopping a car thats led the entire race, with his team mate behind him and the 3rd place guy behind him who has been slower than both cars all race with 11 laps left really justifies a pit stop ?
Not a chance in hell.
If Vettel had stopped he'd be 20 odd seconds down the road, how would he make that up, around Monaco in 10 laps just to get to Nico, let alone pass Nico and then challenge Lewis for the lead ?
Unless you've dropped a few counters off your abacus it simply didn't add it - then or now.
Besides, Toto defended it saying that Vettel might have stopped (which is no defence at all as per above) they miscalculated the gap, they thought they had 3 seconds, but actually only had 1.8. He said the question was should they have decided to stop with a gap of 3 seconds?
The answer to which was, and still is no. its not rocket science.

Wonder if Lewis is thinking why did i sign for 3 years now.
Why would he think that? He needs Mercedes a lot more than they need him. I have no doubt that any other team out there would love to have him on their side. He could have gone anywhere.
The only team winning this season is going to be Merc or a lucky driver - sometimes both. Next season and the one after? Look how well Ferrari have come on.
Merc need Hamilton, and not only for his driving.
His wage is insane. So is Mercedes for paying it.

So let me get this right, the team said 'stay out', Lewis came in anyway, and it's the teams's fault? The driver gets the call on tyres, always has, seems to me like Hamilton cocked up. Only a moron would give up track position 10 laps from the end of the Monaco GP, once Hamilton pitted there wasn't a cat in hells chance of Rosberg or Vettel doing the same.

Sounds like it was Lewis' call and Nico won on merit."I thought the guys behind were pitting so when the team said stay out, I said these tyres would drop in temps and what I was concerned they were on options – so with that thinking I came in with the full confidence that the others had done the same."
