So yes very small children are a pain, but in the scheme of things they transform into bored sulky moody teenagers permanently immersed in Facebook and Minecraft pretty quickly.
EFA. biggrin

Basically you get a brief period aged between about 5 and 10 where they can dress themselves, deal with their own faeces, hold a conversation, get enthusiastic about things and are fun to be with. Then you get the teenager years that drag on and on. Then, if you're lucky, they leave. If you're not, they don't until they're in their thirties (more and more common, and I'm not convinced it is just about the money).

You've got a girl too, they're the worst teenagers. You've got PMT to contend with, unsuitable boyfriends, bhy girl friends, the whole clothing thing (you're not going out wearing that!!), weird diets, etc etc.

Just remember, when she screams 'I hate you!!', she doesn't mean it. Well, actually she does, but she'll get over it. Eventually... smile

Actually I have 2 girls, and a wife, maybe they'll all synchronise and go on the blob together and scream at me/each other. I think I'll spend a lot of time out in the sheds/fields finding things to do.

British Leyland depression counselling.
Well done.

my 5 year old is pretty self sufficient, dresses herself, gets ready for school, gets the bus, when she gets home on the bus she takes herself off and gets changed.
Your 5 year old gets herself up and takes herself to and from school on her own? I can't tell if you are trying to convince yourself or us that things are really this easy or if you really do this is which case wow! I have no interest in having kids but I would never allow my nephews to get on a bus themselves at 5.

That's me too, fortunately the eldest lives with her boyfriend now and has done for about 18m/two years.

Er why? The school bus stops at the end of the drive, she gets on said bus, at the end of the day the same thing happens, how on earth do you think kids who get the school bus manage to get home from school? I don't drive to the school, put her on the bus then drive all the way home to meet her.

And yes, she gets up, gets herself dressed, gets herself some cereal/yogurt, brushes her teeth and is good to go. That is pretty normal by 5, when they are also spending all day in school and have to manage with trips to the toilet, getting their lunch, etc.

Wow. Fair enough. I got the bus to school from 7 and thought that was pretty early but 5, I never knew that. Just surprised that's all.

I'm surprised myself at how grown up they are by 5. But if you think about it in order to go off and function at school they have to be. It's school not nursery, they're expected to be pretty self sufficient once there.

As the other poster said I probably have 5 years of lovely daughter before the horomones transform her into the girl out of the original exorcist film!

I think there is a big difference between a bus that anyone can get on and a school bus.

Well yes that is true as well. The driver is acting in loco parentis to the extent they are trusted to ensure the kids actually get out at the other end, at the right place, equally that they all get on in the evening. It's a very good service!

Well I guess I should've seen this coming, especially after posting on this thread...

My wife turned round to me tonight and said she'd want to do something about kids before she's 40.

fking great. curse

To which I replied "better get a lottery win then... in fact that'll be the V8 fund gubbed then??", swiftly followed by me heading back to the office for some peace.

And all because I happened to mention that some old family friends who got married before us last year are now expecting... FFS. Talk about doing it to yourself! It was also not long after I'd been ranting about the little sts up the street, who have been riding their bikes through our garden when we're not in. And my thoughts of "I'd run the little s over but I'd damage the car" were met with a disapproving scowl.

Oh well, just have to go drown them in the burn instead...

So is some twonk going to now insist I go ahead, just so I can "see what it's like"? Tbh I don't think I sound like parent material wink

I suspect given your stance throughout on this matter, you made that up. If you didn't ... well well well ... That just serves you right ... smile

No insistence from this twonk. Do not blame yourself, those hormones have been moaning within the depths of her womanhood. It is a very powerful force of Nature. Go with the flow... thumbup

Nope afraid not - it quite frankly rounded off the day perfectly as a hellish one. Timmy40 - I think this means I just pissed in my own tea? banghead

I think hor-moans would be a more accurate spelling. Any way I can take the battery out of the ticking clock??

I know, I'll buy her a dog....
